Keeping a spray of water on it as the it is removed is necessary but remember it all ends up on the lawn around the house . When it dries out and the lawn is mowed it will become airborne . I think i would lay some old bed sheets , under felt , carpet etc on the ground to catch it , keep them wet and wrap them up in plastic while still damp and dispose of them with the siding when your finished the task .

If your area allows you to put it at the curb. Go the next step. Get a dumpster, keep everything wet, and double bag. Its been a few years since I messed with the stuff but we had to mark the bags and when we got to the dump they were to bury it right away. But that didn't happen they ran all over the bags with the rest of the trash. They told us that the double bags were for transporting only.

It sounds like you are a little uncomfortable with the legal stuff. If that is the case then don't think about the house any more and let someone else buy it. You'll sleep better.:)

Like others wrote -
Asbestos is only a problem when one gets fibers in the lungs.

As best as I know careful removal and disposal of relatively small amounts does not increase your cancer risk anymore than breathing smog in a city occasionally.

It's DANGEROUS if your life requires frequent contact.

So - don't drive over the speed limit.
If it's going to cause you worry - forget about it. If your the type that can say no harm is or will be done tear it off, carefully, make sure its buried properly.

I've got floor tile that MIGHT be asbestos. Then again might not. I plan on tearing it out with caution and making sure it's disposed of properly. But I don't plan on getting it tested.

I recently called about getting some removed from an old house that i bought for the land. I gave 7000 for the house and 2.5 acres. I measured the outside and its square footage. They wanted 10 000 to remove th tiles and me supply the dump fees and and a dumpster. I would leav the house but Im tired of every evening people stopping by wanting to rent or buy the house. I worked for a company and we had to remove asbestos and to keep it off the yard they would dump a load of dirt and then we spread it wit hthe backhoe or skid steer. about 2 inches deep and wet it. as they sprayed the tiles and removed them the tiles were stacked into 55 gallon drums. Then afterwards and chips on the dirrt wer scooped up and sent away with a lined dumpster. the landfill immediatly buried this.

Since I'm planning on retiring near Iuka, and have about 300 acres near Fairfield, how strict are the inspectors?
I probably would have torn it out, wrapped it up and buried it 6' deep, maybe put a garage w' concrete floor over it :)
$10K is fees for the scared. The darned stuff is ROCK.

I decided to put in an offer on a different house. I didn't want to deal with that asbestos.

Thx for all the help/advice!

So you decided to put an offer on a different house. Have you checked it for radon?

Thanks ETD66SS.

That product is nothing like anything I have seen used around here. I will watch for it in the future.
