any Brewers hanging out here?

We recently found there are lots of motorcyclists on this forum.

I was curious, do any of you brew?

I have been brewing on and off for about 15 years. I have a 10g gravity feed all-grain system. I keg in 5 and 10g soda kegs. Right now I have a stout that's aging, and a Kolsch that's ready to tap.

Now that I've got a tractor, this could be my next focus!

At one time my wife and I would make a lot of home brew, but since we moved to this house and have well water we stopped. The well water gave it a funny taste so we gave up on it. Just to lazy to haul the water in I guess. Still have all the stuff to do it, just not the time or drive I guess. Still there is nothing like a home brew to wash the dust down after riding the tractor for 3 hours when cutting the grass in the summer!

RobertN, can you send me your recipe? I had one many years ago; only made two batches. The first batch was a little flat, but not bad. Next batch, I bottled sooner so it wouldn't be flat; a few bottles exploded in the pantry, and my wife said no more./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

RobertN, It is something I have always wanted to do, but just never have. My grandfather worked at a local brewery before prohibition. During Prohibition, he brewed his own beer, and I'm told, made a peach brandy that was in high demand/w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
I guess a book on it and a supplier for ingredents would be a good place to start?

I don't brew. Some day I would like to try. There is a guy out of town that brews his own beer. He does a lot of different and weird flavors. I have only tried his sap beer (made from maple tree sap). Not bad but different. My grandfather in Germany made his own beer but I never got to meet him.

We live right near a major apple growing region here in the foothils(The "Gold Country" has awesome wines and apples). I've made some great hard cider from fresh pressings! Didn't do any this year though/w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif The stuff is dangerous though, 'cause it's nice and smooth, and has a heck of a kick!

It's a lot of fun. It's inexpensive, and simple. For about $20, you can brew about 2-1/2 cases of really nice beer. A reasonable starter kit is about $30-40. It's really the least expensive hobby I have.

And, as Von said, it's nice to relax after tractor time with a nice brew you done made yourself

I found if I boiled my water before brewing it pretty much cured that.

The time stuff, I can sympathize! That's why my 15 years or so of brewing have been off and on.
