Snowridge, I could do the same thing, but have just never thought about doing it; just in a habit of buying the groceries with the credit card. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Like you Bird, I pay my credit card off every month.

I used to pay cash for everything. The last 5 years or so I got a credit card that has reward points. Sometimes, like grocery stores, I get double points. So now I charge EVERYTHING on the card and still pay it off every month. Every six months or so I redeem the points for several $100 Home Depot cards. Last time I got 6 of them and bought my Generac with them. the card company makes nothing off me...no annual fee no interest.

I still caryy cash for emergencies and golf bets.

Not a bad way to be /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use a debit card that draws money from an interest paying checking account. This is especially handy for paying at the pump and grocery shopping. There is no fee to use it and I don't have to carry large amounts of cash.

I also use a credit card for internet purchases and also for large purchases. I generally (99.9% of the time) pay off the balance monthly to avoid a finance fee. We try to stay within our means but there are times when we have to carry the balance over for a few months.

Other than our daughters college expenses, which we had saved & budgeted for since her conception, we don't have any other big ticket monthly payments. House, truck, car's and tractor's are all paid in full.

I would like to build up a little play dough and play the market some. This is a work in progress though. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We tend to pay with a credit or debit card. Nice thing about cards is you get that handy electronic interface with the lending institution that works in your money management software. Shows you exactly where you spend your money and on what. We always pay it off at the end of the month, so no charges for many years. I just don't like to carry cash. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I would find it difficult to maintain any kind of spending records using cash. Nothing wrong with having bank accounts. You can have a bank account and also stay out of debt.

Nothing wrong with good old America green however.

Sums up my financial dealings as well. I see this as simplified over writing check and always keeping large amounts of cash on hand. I have to direct deposit my paycheck so there is no escaping banks anyway.
I know folks who complained when we switched to direct deposit but a paycheck has to be converted to cash at some point.

When the City of Dallas first made "direct deposit" available, I was one of the first to sign up and I was also one of the first to get off of it, since you had no idea when it would be posted. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif But after a few months, they finally got the kinks worked out and I went back to direct deposit and have been for many years now. I've had an income tax refund each year for several years, use TurboTax and direct deposit for that, too. I noticed on their website, a number of people have complained about not getting their refund on the date that TurboTax "estimated" (it tells you there's no guarantee of a date), but mine has been deposited on that date every time.

Just my two cents worth.....I, like many of you folks out there always use the credit card for most of my purchases. I always pay the bill in full when the statement comes in. Yes, I agree that it takes some getting used to in order to do this.

The nice thing about using my credit card (in this case it's a GM Master Card) I got to make my best deal on a 2004 Silverado one ton dually and then I said by the way I've got some GM credits on my card I want to use. The girl in the office never saw anyone cash in $2,900 worth of credits and was amazed.

Since that point in time, I've been buying all of my groceries using the GM card as well as other purchases...just getting ready for the next vehicle purchase. It actually adds up pretty fast and is a good way to get a discount on a new vehicle.

It takes discipline but is well worth the effort. There are some that can't stand credit cards and I can appreciate that as well.
