Good idea, Swanee. I'll do that.

( Not a thing, but you might want to get the hooks without the pin rings on them. AW Direct sells them, many dealers carry them also. They look factory when welded on /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )

OK MrJoe and other fans of the weld-on hooks from AW Direct. I yielded to your experience and recommendations. You were all right, it looks a lot better this way, in spite of my scabby welding.

I've attached a pic.

Next job is a boom frame for my bucket.

Your welding looks fine from the southeast side..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

What are your thoughts on building a FEL bucket boom?

I've thought about this and think that attaching a receiver hitch on the top center would be nice (if I can find a strong spot. And I can run chains to give it some added strength from near the end of the boom to my chain hooks............ Easy to put on/take off, doesn't take up much space, etc.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. Your thoughts?

I'm making an 10 foot long A frame with a slot at each foot of the A that will slide over the bottom lip of the bucket. The A will lie parallel to the ground and I will run chains from the point of the A up to my chain hooks to hold it up. I will be testing it in the next day or two and I will post a picture if it doesn't do anything embarrassing, like break. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I like your hitch receiver idea for simplicity, but if it is on the top lip of the bucket and so are your chain hooks, I can't see how the chains can give you any upward support, only sideways support. Does this sound right to you? Maybe your bucket and hitch receiver will be strong enough so you don't need additional vertical support, as long as the boom pole is not too long.

But you'll notice I didn't take a close-up! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah those hooks in the pic are not designed to be welded onto flat surfaces.
