Any easy way to drain PS hydraulic oil on 304?

The subject says it all. I can't see any drain for the power steering hydraulics for my Jinma 304. Take it apart at the banjo fitting on the pump? Not the lowest point in the system. The flex hose coming out of the reservoir is pretty hard to get to where it attachs to the hard line unless I remove the cowling. Any suggestions are welcome.

I've done mine a couple times. The first time I siphoned it out with a hose. The next time I bought a cheap suction pump from like Walmart. I think if I was in Alaska i'd go with a 10 wt. hydro oil in it. I know my 354 steers hard with anything heavier in it.

I will try the 10 wt. The only problem I noticed with the steering was when it was below freezing. Then it would take about 10 minutes of warm up time before I had Any steering. I assumed the brownish foamy gunk had a lot of water in it. Could easily have been that it was too thick. The part of Alaska I live in, Southeast, is temperate. I know, hard to imagine. It's a rainforest with weather dictated by the Pacific Ocean. Average winter temp of 28 degrees, avg. summer 45 degrees. Lighter oil could not hurt, thanks for the tip.

Jim,,,

The way we do it in the shop is much easier. We just
disconnect hoses at the steering ram and put them in a
collection vessel of some kind. Then with engine off just turn
the steering wheel in one direction and then the other until
the steering motor has pumped out all the oil. Then jack up
front end and run the wheels to both stops by hand empting
the ram.

That sounds much more thorough. And the connections are such that I can easily get a bucket under it. I had to connect them when I put the tractor together, duh! Sometimes the simple things completely escape me.

One additional note on this. Be careful not to loose the
"O" rings. I suggest you remove them first so they don't
wind up falling into the collection vessel..
