SWMBO has put me in the market for a 7x16 dual, braked, axle ENCLOSED trailer. For new trailers Xtra Tuff seems to have a great price, ~$3K, for new. I've only found 1 review on the web, said they were OK.

I've got a place within a couple of miles of me that builds good 7x16 trailers for about $4.5K. Xtra Tuff would be about 200 miles out of my way on a trip from Va to Ms, so it's not TOO far.

So does anyone have any experience with them, good or bad?

I know there are a lot of other trailer mfg's, but most I've found are in Indiana or Illinois etc.

I just bought one in January, JUNK!!!! don't buy one of these, it had self tapping screws pointing up into the ceiling rubbing holes in the super light weight roofing material, Cheapest material you can buy, used it twice and yesterday the jack broke. Have made several calls wanting to talk to the owner, get told he will call back. Sent him an email no response. When it arrived screws were missing out of the side walls, I figure it will be in pieces within 2 years. This has been going on for 2 months now. Do yourself a favor and steer clear, the old saying you get what you pay for is true, buy cheap and you get JUNK, XTRA TUFF TRAILERS, should be named xtra cheap trailers

I have bought 2 trailers from them and we use one for racing and 1 for buisness and have had great service out of them both. They are great people that have always seemed to put customer service first. We will buy more in the future and they will be Xtra Tuff Trailers.

Not that this will answer your question about that particular brand, but it pays to look at what you're getting for the money.
Last year I bought a 6x12 enclosed to haul 2 Harleys. For the exact same price, one dealer had RC and one had American Hauler. The RC had unpainted OSB floor, cheap luan plywood on the walls, thin sheet metal and bare frame.
The American Hauler had 3/4" pressure treated plywood floor, a harder board on the walls, heavier sheet metal and one piece roof, undercoated frame and was about 6 inches taller inside.

I live in Columbus Ohio, I purchased an Xtra Tuff Harley Davidson Trailer for my husband as a surprise birthday gift, They delivered it for me so i could surprise my husband, First let me say the orange and black was beautiful, I ordered a 7x14 v-nose, once i gave it to my husband he was very happy and happy with the product, but i could tell something was wrong. The next day he confided that he was very happy, but he wish it had been a 7x18, I called the sales manager and told him about my mistake, feeling like they were nothing that they would do. I was very surprised and happy when he said no problem! They would refund my money under there 30 day money back satisfaction guarantee and then i could by the 7x18 that my husband preferred, I was amazed! We did just that, and our trailer is great, I have since reccomended them to a couple of friends in our riding club who also purchased from them with absolutly no problem. I see Pool Digger really talking down about them on several sites, I cant emagine what the real problem is there, or if someone is that dissatisfied why not just return it under there satisfaction guarantee, my understanding is no one else even has that kind of guarantee, We will be purchasing a small 6x12 for our lawnmower next summer and it will be an xtra tuff. Really great people who helped me out of a jam!

Very interesting - 1 post by 1pooldigger who only visited TBN for a few days and 1 dump on the trailer, two posts by others who seem to only be here for xtra tuff trailer praise.

Doesn't pass my smell test.

Newberry, im thinking the very same thing. The OP may have come here to vent but it is suprising that the 2 resonses are positive and they are totally band new members, with only one post? Seems like company damage control, trolls? But they have tractors and everything? :)

This is i think is key, is the Pool digger a person from a competing company? Makes you think or either he genuinly is dissatisfied , but makes you wonder that this person has 1 post here yet seen them "talk them down on several sites"??

These guys and their similar posts about Xtra Tuff were booted from from the tractor site that starts with a ""Y and a "T" about a week ago. The same crapola.

Posts like the replies means I'll cross that vendor off my list.

It's too bad things like this are allowed to happen. They could be excellent trailers, especially for the price, or they could be junk, but you'll never know from most internet reviews.

You could have one disgruntled customer, an employee you fired or even a competitor posting negatives and it can seriously damage your reputation and business. So then what do you do. Practice some damage control by asking some of your satisfid customers to post rebuttals? Post some compliments you've gotten from real satisfied customers? The internet is a tough place for a small business.

It's been said on here before about degrees of trailer quality, go and look at the trailer in person and judge for yourself. I would say if you haven't purchased a trailer in the meantime and have the time to swing buy their place, go and look and judge for yourself if you think you can save considerable $$ and the quality is what you're looking for.

The problem is that just with the cost of fuel and tires even in my TDI it's about $50 and 4 or 5 hours to "swing by". Maybe if I can get more reports that seem unbiased it would be worth it.

newbury, xtra tuff is a dealer who sells primarily Covered Wagon trailers out of Fitzgerald GA. They advertise they are the factory but to my knowledge they don't manufacture trailers themselves. Covered Wagon has been in existence for about two maybe three years. They are a decent economy line trailer. With any trailer manufacturer, the quality goes to the core of their manufacturing principles. Trailers are a HIGHLY manual assembly process it's nothing like automotive or equipment manufacturing. I speak from experience as I was the general manager for one of Universal Trailer Corporation plant in GA (UTC manufactures Haulmark and Wells Cargo enclosed trailers.... they also produce Horse and livestock trailers Exiss/Sooner and Featherlite). I now own my own retail business focused on trailer sales. The name of my company is Trailer Nation (trailernation.com). Feel free to look at our website and if you would like to contact us, I would be glad to explain one-on-one what to look for when purchasing a trailer. It is critical the trailer is built with it's end use in mind especially when it comes to equipment hauling and frequent use. I am passionate about being sure the customer gets what they want but with price in mind that often creates some level of conflict. I am currently in the process of developing a comparison web site for trailer manufacturing that helps explain some of the critical difference in trailer manufacturing to help the consumer understand what might be critical for their application. Hope this helps a little and best of luck in your pursuit.

newbury, no experience with Xtra Tuff Trailers, but if you live anywhere near Petersburg, VA google 460 trailer sales. Take a look at the Arising trailers they sell. I have an 8x20 and you won't find a much better trailer for a very reasonable price. I have had zero issues with mine. Ask for Mac.

I recently purchased a xtra tuff trailer back in June of this year i have to say i am very pleased with it. It is a 7x18 that we use to haul our polaris ranger, the trailer has been perfect. When we went to pick it up we had a small wiring problem but they had me fixed and road ready with in 30 minutes. The people were very friendly and while waiting i had a great talk with the owner who does some hobby farming as well. The whole experince was great,I saw this forum the other day and noticed Xtra Tuff Trailer reviews upon seeing 1pooldiggers post i decided to create myself an account and speak on my friends in Eastman Ga's behalf they build a quality trailer at a great price from my experience and I hate to see someone bashing them

My husband and I are definitely on a mission. He found a couple of really bad comments about Xtra Tuff. It is just plain wrong to judge a company on one or two disgruntled people's opinions. I was led to this site since it showed reviews for this company. We have two trailers we bought from them in 2011. One is a vending and the other is a concession. We have planned to buy our third trailer from them the first of the year. I am not here to run down other trailer companies, but we have had two very poor trailers. A local man whom we know showed us his Xtra Tuff trailer and we were able to see the difference especially by looking at the interior. The interior of the trailer we had been using was a mess of staples, loosly hanging wires, and deteriorating wall covering. The Xtra Tuff trailer seemed to be well-built, so we gave them a call. Nice salepeople who knew what they were talking about. We both definitely recommend Xtra Tuff. And, yes, we own a John Deere. It's older, but that just isn't a term used by tractor owners...our tractor is "experienced."

We just read this post and it amazes us how you have the nerve to advertise in a forum. Isn't there enough advertising? If you own an Xtra Tuff trailer, then talk about it from your experience. Don't make wild accusations.
