I'm a die hard Stihl fan but have been debating John Deere's Pro series chainsaws lately. I have a small Stihl MS180C I use for smaller work around the house and would like a bigger saw to compliment my Stihl.

My intuition tells me to stick with Stihl, but there's something about the JD that keeps getting my attention. Maybe it's my JD line of credit, lol.

Anyway, I know you'll only see the pros use Orange (Husky and Stihl) but i'm hoping someone here can provide some feedback, good or bad about the JD line of saws.

Thanks in advance. Oh and try to take it easy on the new guy /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think most of the JD stuff (trimmers and saws) is made by Homelite. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My information is about 4 years old but maybe I can help. I sold Deere's from 98 to 02 and when I did Deere's handhelds were mostly built by Stihl. At the time all chain saws were built by them and I sold next to none since you could walk accross the street and buy the stihl for $50 less on average. We also were able to get homelite, but at that time any homelite stuff was sold red with the homelite name on it (mostly generators and string trimmers). I even ordered it from the homelite rep, and was billed by deere.

JD stuff is currently made by Efco (not Echo), an Italian firm. I've heard from die hard Stihl loving professional arborists and loggers that the JD/Efco is a respectable saw.

I hope so - I just got one! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
