Bill, You did not mention if either was a 4x4. If you are contemplating a 4x4, I suggest that you take the F250 for a good test drive. One of the biggest differences between the 150 and 250 (besides the obvious size and payload) is the front axle. The F150 has independent front suspension, while the F250 has a solid front axle. So if you like the mushy, car-like ride of your Ranger, go with the F150... because the F250 will ride more like a truck than a car.
I drive a '00 Excursion, which is an F250 with back seats. I get 12 mpg around town and 14-15 on the highway with my 6.8L V10. But it is well worth it when I hook up the heavy horse trailer.
