I think of myself as one of the original video gamers. Pong came out during my youth and I have played lots of games on lots of systems over the years. I even designed games for a couple of years for a big player in the industry (90s).

I tend to play on Steam nowadays. I don't like the transition to pay to win games that don't just take money at point of sale, but bleed you of cash along the way just to win. I don't mind them selling additional art (skins), but I'd much rather pay up front for the game and be able to complete it.

I used to play World of Warships, and quite enjoyed it; now? Fallout 4. That's a lot of gore though. I really enjoy the lore and locations, one of the expansions being on Mount Desert Isle here in Maine.

I've been considering the Xbox one S for this Christmas. My son will turn 6 in April and it's something we could do together. I've always been into driving simulations on computers and consoles but have been away from it for about a decade. The Xbox One S will go for under $300 with 2 controllers this Christmas. The issue I'm having is the cost of a good steering wheel and pedal setup. It will be almost as much as the system itself but I won't play a driving sim without a wheel. Add in a chair and mount for the wheel and pedals and we're talking serious money. I'm looking at over $700 complete and that with only one game.

Replying to my own post, lol. Since this post, our household has gone all in on gaming.

I ended up getting my son the XBox S, I also got myself an XBox X and gave my original XBox to my wife's sister in The Philippines. Then we got my wife an XBox S like my son. We also bought our son a very nice gaming computer.

We play Fortnite as a family sometimes, my son is much better than me or my wife but we play on the same team. It's a pretty entertaining thing to do as a family. Thanks to Starlink, there's no lag and the huge downloads are taken care of overnight.

My son is also into Roblox and Mine Craft, the latter seems to help with critical thinking and problem solving.

We've spent quite a bit of money on this "hobby" but it probably saves us money elsewhere, i.e. restaurants, theaters, etc.

I've played War Thunder for a decade now. Most evening I spend about 2 hrs online playing with friends in a discord channel for communications. The game is fun and the friends are US and world wide. So hangar discussion can be very interesting with people from very different parts of the world like Serbia, South Africa, South America, Asia, the Netherlands, and such. My US friends from TX, KY, GA, IA, WA, CT. It's a very diverse group of men and women.
Fun to be a part of this squadron.
I'm on my second gaming PC. Starlink and modern video cards have upped my game.

I've played a little War Thunder. I liked that it was cross-platform. I could play with my brother wherever he was stationed.

Yes, I have a friend who moved across country 3 yrs ago and we can still talk and play together as if nothing has changed. WT is a game based upon WWII battles. I started when they had only airplanes as I was also flying RC warbirds at the time. Then I transitioned in a tank man when they were introduced and that is where we play mostly today. The game is very tech oriented as you choose your tanks from various nations and select your load out and play to upgrade both the tanks and the crews. It's flawed like any game but the teamwork is fun. Really the only game I've spent any time on beside World of Warships.

80s child here. One on the greatest games I played as a kid was Solomons Key on the original Nintendo. It is a strategy game. I miss those types of games. Got my kids Nintendo Switch and tried to play it but I am just not into it anymore.

Like others, I do solitaire, free-cell, Majhong, etc. when not watching videos with someone repairing lawnmowers, building cabins in the woods, tractor auctions, ancient mysteries, etc. LOL

Back in 1998 I was playing Nacar online and actually raced against Dale E. Jr. one race. There was an officially sponsored series, NROS in 1998. There was an entry fee if I remember right and I placed high enough to win a fleece pullover with NROS embroidered on it. 😅 The top finishers were flown to Daytona to race in person I think.

I was a gamer addict for 12 years. My life was...come home from work, get online play multiplayer games like FarCry, Warcraft, Battlefield and so on until 3am. Go to bed wake up go to work...on weekens would play from friday evening straight until Sunday evening.

Was a PC gamer and built my own 30,000 dollar water cooled junk, most expensive one I built was 50k for a fellow gamer in Florida..all junk cause it was obsolete in 6 years anyway. Consoles are cheaper junk and always will be...the gaming pads suck. Keyboard and mouse control is soooo much better.

Bought a new xbox X 1tb...used once. Dont like the inacurate thumb sticks one bit. Even spent extra on a keyboard and mouse emulator...still sux. Sits in my room does nothing.

Just bought a gaming laptop...stll playing Farcry 5 and 6 but only 2 hours a week.

What cured me from gaming? My then girlfriend now wife came over one night and asked me to stop playing games and play with her. She saved me from a lonely life.

I hope none becomes that addicted.

Last full game played was Assassins Creed II. On a Play Station 3. It was odd that I had never been afraid of heights before. Now I am. :(

I also gave up building gaming computers a long time ago when I saw processors and graphics cards skyrocketing in price. I also went with the xbox platform for gaming but I was never a hardcore gamer. Now days I'm content with a $100 lease return for a computer upgrade. I play more Rocksmith these days but its more of a learning tool than a game.

I play on a computer, I can't get used to gaming controllers.

I played battlefield with my boys for a few years then when they left I started playing battlefield II for several years. I did it to unwind and take my mind off of work etc. I was average at it. I didn't play enough to get good at it, nor did I want to.

I now play Fortnite occasionally. I've won about 5 or 6 times but I'm not that great at it, nor do I ever plan to be. My years of battlefield experience translated over to Fortnite so I'm able to hold my own in a game. I can usually take out 4 or 5 people before some wiz takes me out.

My grandson is 8 and his dad lets him play Fortnite (I think he is a little young for it but.. ) I've played on a team with him a few times and that is hilarious.

Consoles make more sense for action-oriented games. Computers make more sense for strategy or turn-based games.

I remember when Wolfenstein 3D changed the gaming world and played it on a 486.
