Any good books about welding?

I have a Nephew who is showing interest in welding.
I would like to send him a book that has general history of how welding developed and the different processes and why each is used, etc.

Yes. I've always collected welding books and taught with them. There have been a lot of welding books and texts written, but most of them nowadays are full of irrelevent content and sound like they are written by someone without any knowledge of communication. The old WW2 welding manuals were the best written as far as basic knowledge, but a lot of that is out of date. Now, anyone can write a welding book, as I alluded to earlier, and get it published. The one I have found to be absolutely the best, without a close second is published by Pearson publishing, a well established educational text publisher, and written by a guy (3 actually) who were long time welding teachers in a technical school in Miller's backyard. One of them has become a friend of mine. For the record, I get no compensation or benefit of any kind for my recommendation. The Book is simply "Welding". It is a great resource and answers many questions and gives really good practical information. Welding

The welding "bible" from Lincoln is a good resource (first one posted in pics above) but it is horribly arranged and lags behind in technology. I have one myself, but it isn't for someone trying to learn. It's valuable as a "check" or a procedure guide, but it isn't great on teaching the nuts and bolts of welding. It's good to have, but it can be confusing to use and has a 1960's feel to the information...though it has been updated multiple times. It needs to have a complete rewrite.

I second your opinion. Welding is a great book for beginning welders. Welding Tips and Tricks on YouTube is also a great resource. But the book Welding is a must read.

I paid for Tim's welding courses, perhaps less than for a college textbook. He covers the basics very well for beginners. Good stuff esp for the bucks IMO, even if you don't sign up & just watch his YT videos.

Welding is something I never learned but always wanted to. My oldest son decided at the end of his 1st year of college last year that college was not for him. He started welding school a few months ago. I think he just started on tig this week. Now I've got a son who can take care of my welding needs for me. Even better. Should finish up with a master pipe welders certificate when he's finished up.
