Any good uses for used Mneral oil?

i think they stopped using mineral oil containing pcb's in transformers two or three decades ago. i'd bet the utilities, etc. have pretty much removed from service the bulk of the old ones by now. i'm sure the chance exists that there could still be the few old ones around, but if a test came back clean i'd think it was correct.

if you had an old un-fussy diesel you could probably burn it too. i bet an old lister would chug away just fine on it.

Thanks for bringing me up to date on PCB's not being used any more (phased out) two or three decades ago. Thats good to know. Sometimes one gets wrapped up in a moment and forgets that the rest of the world keeps moving on. Then later in life what seems like a year ago is actualy twenty. Life is too short!

You guys here at TBN are a great bunch of guys!!!

Have a good day.

I used mineral oil as the coolant in my dummy load. (for my radios.)

I thought about that, but didn't think anyone would know what I was talking about:) "dummy load?" "who you calling dummy?"

I use old oil to impregnate fence posts. Have two drums welded on top of each other with a door in the side of the upper barrel. There are fence posts with the bottom half in the oil, extract the ones I need and refill with posts and oil as I take.

Works great as a machining or metal saw lube if you cut it with a little water .

I may have to save some and try that. Is mineral oil soluble in water??

It is a great rust preventative for hand tools, bullet molds, reloading dies etc.

I use the drug store variety Non toxic, cheap and it works.

A lot of museums use it for their metal artifact's .

I think I have used a quart in the last six years . :)
