As long as there is a range that works well for mowing, and one that works for heavy work, you really don't need more. They can be the same range, Low in the case of JD, and that is fine. High range seems to be more of a transport thing with all these tractors. Personally, two ranges are fine by me, and I would prefer a slower high range that had the oomph to do some hills with myself. I like the drive over mower deck idea, but folks say that the decks are no problem on the B series. The other option there, of course, is to wait for the new 2920 which will have a drive over deck. For your uses, the one that makes you smile the most when you operate it is probably the best deal........ whatever the color.
what is the big deal about the drive over deck on the new B's coming? Is it a totally different deck/mowing experience than on a B3030 MMM??

The new decks are a suspended type (don't ride on the ground) and have a drive-over feature. The decks for the B3030 are niether.

so that makes for a nicer cut with less scalping or???

The suspended deck is much like the one on the BX, and that deck has a great reputation for mowing, as do the suspended decks on the JD 2000 series. On the B3030 to adjust cut depth, you adjust the wheels that ride on the ground, and some have complained that the roller on the back of the deck leaves the grass packed down, etc. These 300lb - 400lb decks aren't a lot of fun to slide around so the drive over feature is nice. I guess that the 72" deck you can get for the B3030 does allow you to rotate all the supporting wheels 90 degrees, and that makes them easier to mount, and move around. The new B29290 also has a three range hydro. I'm in my 60's and plan on mowing for some time yet, but ease of mounting, and storage is more important to me now.

I had three JDs before I went to Kubota. At the time, 2002, this was due to better service and cost. The local JD dealers were changing ownership and had problems. Now that I have had Kubota they are my first choice. Having said this, I still look at JDs before I buy. I also look at NH.

All of the big three will have lemons occasionally-and that really gets the owner upset. Competition keeps all of them honest.

I went the other direction. Two oranges, then a green. All good machines.

Killer you don't know just how close I came to going back to Green after all the problems I had with the BX1850.

I ended up with the B7800 and fortunately have nothing to say but great things about it. But I was a hair away from going green again.

I will still compare green, orange and blue next time I buy. Some times JD has a perfect fit. Really true in the smaller 318 size machines.

What I am still waiting for are any of the 3 to come up with a modern version of the JD-955. Who ever does will get my $$. I gave all three dealers my want list. We'll see what happens.

if you are looking for an updates 955, why don;t you look at the Cadet Yanmar EX3200 I understand it is just that

The CC is 550 pounds heavier and 2 HP less at the PTO. Closer to a B7800 then a JD955.

Looks like a nice tractor though.

Is the Kubota L3400HST close to a JD 955? Just wondering.
