Any guess what this is?

I'm not complaining. I've found that it's the hijacking that makes a thread interesting after the basic information for starting it has run it's course. I just can't think of one what went so far off course as this one!!!! :)

I agree...most threads run their course after 25 or 30 posts, and far from being insulted, I am pleased if the subject I have posted is interesting enough to wander into other areas.

Well it’s been over 12 hours so to keep this thread going, what is reel to reel? I remember as a youngster in the 70’s we would gather once a year at my grandparents and watch video from some kind of projector that was projected against the base of their bar. I believe it was silent.

OMG... Teac ruled in the day! I was jealous as I didn't have one but oh so wanted one.

That thing is just robbing someone of the joys of mowing!

I’d like to turn my Grasshopper into a robot. Then I could turn it loose mowing while I trimmed and blew off the driveways and sidewalks. I’d rather ride the Grasshopper as do the trimming any day but it would be harder to get a string trimmer robot. The point behind this? I’d get more done in a day and that = more $. And more time to do more fun things. There’s a place in town that sells this little robot mowers referenced in the first page. It works all day to mow an acre. The 72” cut Grasshopper would really rob someone of grass cutting time.

I went to a lawn and garden show several years ago in Louisville and they had a remote controlled mower that looked a lot like today's zero turns, this one had a 12 HP engine on it and they were showing videos of it mowing up and down some pretty steep slopes. It was more geared to large landscaping and grounds maintenance crews than to homeowners.
I think back then they were quoting over 10K retail and while you didn't have to ride it, you did have to keep watching it in order to control it. It had a large control box with one strap that hung around your neck and another that crossed over your back. There was a joystick for directional control, sliders for engine speed and choke, push buttons for start and kill functions.

Go back and look at that picture of that little robotic unit stuck in a rut..... now imaging your grasshopper taking down a chain link fence or eating the shrubbery.

My dad's reel to reel, Sanyo Model MR-929

Stolen pic from another website.

I'm guessing the movie project you're talking about is the old 8mm reel to reel unit.

We still have one in the closet back up dads house, but since I converted pretty much all his 8mm film to DVD, never break it out anymore. Growing up on bases as a young kid, always looked forward to Friday nights as they would show a film outside on the side of a building to watch. Fun family night LOL

Yeah best I remember it looked kinda like your third pic. I was probably 6 or 7 years old the last time we did that.

We were at the lawn and garden show in Louisville last week and saw several of the auto mowers being displayed. Most worked like our Roomba and mow in a random pattern inside the boundary laid out by a buried wire. We also saw several devices that bury the wire, being advertised for invisible dog fences and auto mowers. I would like to have one but would probably find it on the pond if I turned it loose in the front yard.
