Any hummingbirds yet?

Seen one light in a tree down by my creek this morning. After lunch saw one (might be same one) perched on my feeder support. I put out a feeder right after seeing it but so far have not seen it return.

Well - as of about a week ago - I'm up to two pairs now. Still a lot of service berry bushes in bloom - so minimal use of the feeder as of yet.

Well our guys let us know they were here.
They buzzed both the front and back widow asking where the food was.
For sure they are the same family as last year in that they remember where the food bag was.
Yes, they thanked me for lunch! LOL.
Super intelligent for such a teeny little thing!

Next will be the loon families. (we have about 3)
Deer visit daily and devour our hostas as well.
Beavers like our popular trees and coons our attics.
Darn coons will tear away the soffits to get at warm attics.
But then nature is why we moved here.
We learn to live with them.

I am refilling both feeders every three days now. I never have enough time to watch how many birds are feeding, but happy that they do. While I was refilling the feeders tonight I noticed one bird feeding at a hanging fuchsia.

I am filling the larger (2 -1/2 cup) south feeder nearly every day now. The smaller north feeder very 3 days or so. The smaller one seems to have a very dominant pair or pairs near it and has less birds. The larger one sets farther back from the trees so the birds feeding at it can’t dominate so easily. There is one really plump one, I assume it is a male.

Strange things happening here. About three weeks ago I had two pair. And about a week later it went up to either 4 or 5 pair - hard to tell when they are all playing Top Gun. Now I'm back down to two pair. There is absolutely nothing in bloom - so they are depending upon the feeder 100%. A couple of the pair must have found another feeder. Sure hope so..............

Ruby Throated are omnivores, and I suspect all humming bird species might be. They show up in area's long before there is any nectar is being produced. We've seen then chasing little moths down in our yard.

Hummers around here seem to be scarce this year. We see one or two every now and then, but nothing like in previous years. We're surmising that these crazy weather patterns are effecting the normal migrations, but then, we're no experts either. Still, we keep feeders out in case a hungry one comes through. Gotta protect those beautiful little creatures.

We also see wide variations in visits to our feeders and flowers. Seems when they are migrating through, many stop by but shouldn't migration be over by now?? I read somewhere that when the females are nesting, they stop going to feeders. Point is, there must be many, many factors as to why we seen them, then we don't.
