Any idea what this is a piece of?

I found this cleaning up an old farm. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems like it would've had an agricultural purpose. As you can see, it's got a crack along one ridge.

It has 5540 is raised numbers cast onto the visible side, no markings that I can find on the other side. Pretty heavy. Any ideas?

I was searching for other stuff and found this thread http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/202691-front-end-loader-electrolysis.html. If you look at the pic at the bottom of pg 1 it looks the same as the guys corn planter press roller rim.
