I wish i would have kept count on how many gallons of gas i have poured from those round 5gal cans. Thanks for all the replies. You guys have lots of good ideas. Right now I am trying the apple cider vinegar method. I already had the apple cider vinegar and it is a easy method. I probably should have put some rocks in the can and shook it a little to remove the worst before I put the vinegar in. It is really not that rusty, just a couple of spots.
I carried the can up to the house and sat it on the deck when I went to get the vinegar. I had a few people looking down in the can to see how bad the rust was:laughing:

when i was a teenager I worked for my dad who was a commercial fisherman and depending upon where you docked sometimes all the fuel was carried to the boat daily. Lots of times the cans were loaded into a skiff (small boat) to take out to the larger boat that was anchored .Its still done that way today buts its all diesel in plastic cans now.
Everyone that ran a boat back then used that style of can , that was before plastic cans were the norm.
