Need to ship a 60" MMM from CT to Idaho. So far, the shipping charge is
busting this sale.

Any suggestions in finding a way to ship this at a reasonable rate?

About a $1.00 a pound LTL a few years ago is what I paid. UPS will take up to 150 pounds. Until dimensional weight kicks in next year with UPS and FedEx.

have you checked truck freight?

i've had heavy rops and LARGE tire/rims shiped from multi states away truck for a couple hundred or less in freight.

LTL (less than a load) is truck freight.

I haven't used them, but have you checked with Fastenal? They do some store to store shipping. ~~ Lowell

I'd also suggest trying u-ship...in fact, I think that may be your only option.
No matter what, Connecticut to Idaho isn't going to be cheap....I'd estimate $600-$1000.

This may be a long shot (a REALLY long shot!!), but check with Greyhound bus company. They will ship stuff in the cargo holds of their buses. Basically, you take it to the terminal, buy it a ticket and off it goes! I don't know if they'll do something like a deck though.

Shop around for the LTL freight rates. This past spring I bought a 3 point chipper shredder from an implement dealer in WI and had it shipped here to OH. The freight quotes ranged from the $260 (that I took) to over $1400. I ended up using ABF Freightlines. They picked it up from the dealer (who had a forklift - that's a major thing) and had it shipped to the terminal about 30 miles from me. I called ABF directly to get the quote. Make sure you ask them about "contract rates" or "discount rates". If you don't, they will most likely quote "retail" or "full" rates. You'll need the measurements and weight of the deck and they will want it skidded. It doesn't matter if it hangs over the skid, they just want to be able to handle it easily.

Be sure to confirm the "freight class" too. For my chipper the freight class was "250" which was kind of a "catch-all" class. It was also the most expensive class so I was covered if they decided to reclass it later in the process. I had it originally classed as something else but decided to change it to 250. They did not change the price on me when they requoted it.

Good luck with all this!!

Good idea. I wonder if other store chains would do that too? Especially stores where the salesman says "We don't have that, but our store in East Podunk has it, I can get it here by next Tuesday" versus a big chain where everything comes from a central warehouse.

Be careful I don't know what kind of deal you have and that's your business but a lot of scammers want to pay you for item with shipping they want you to cash check and then send money by western union to shipper beware.
