I have a JD 4400 4WD with the old style axle and the ball joints on the tie rods are wore out,I had a ball joint come apart on me and my parts CD gives me a number (AM127175) and my dealer said it was replaced with a 2 part number LV.....? I grease the fittings reguarly and the clock turned over 1000 hours last week and the ball joints have lots of slop and excessive wear.
Any one know what the new part number or the part might be like?
Anyone else have a similar problem?
Thanks

AM127175 TIE ROD 2 (SUB LVU14531 AND LVU14549)

That is usually caused from running the 4wd on either hard ground or the roads. I've got over 2000 hours on mine and the tie rods and ball joints are still very tight.

Makes sense to me..............I am not on the road that much, but the hills and terrain around here I have to be in 4 WD a lot and I have done a lot of hard work,a lot of heavy pulling. I have to keep a close eye on the rear wheel bolts.
Really overall the tractor has done quite well. I use the tractor hard but that is what I bought it for. It has made me a lot of money. I stay on top of it mechanically and keep the fluids etc changed regularly. I hope it will last me 6000 to 7000 hours. What do you think about the longevity Doc ?

I have no doubt about the longevity. I also use mine pretty hard, way harder than it was meant to be used and so far it has been almost flawless. The new 4720 is sounding pretty tempting though.

I hear you on the rear bolts. I had a couple wiggle out awhile back and messed up the threads on the axle. I've been running with only five bolts for awhile now and amazingly none of them have come loose at all. That's on my list to do is take that wheel off and tap those out smooth. It's such a pain though as I have 300 lbs. of weight on the wheels!

All 4 of my tires(R-1) are loaded,I do not know how much they weigh except they are very heavy and thats what I want.
I put the red color thread locker(Locktie) on my wheel bolts and it helps a good bit,but they still will work loose sometimes not a big problem nor does it happen that often.
The JD 4720 sounds great, thats a lot of horsepower in a compact /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. I will have to wait a few years before I move up in size because of $$$$$$$$,besides that as long as the 4400 keeps running I might as well get my money out of it.One thing for sure my next JD tractor will be bigger.
I rawhide this JD 4400 80% of the time and it still works like a champ.
