Yes I have one. I have almost 2750 Hours on it and it still runs like a charm. Its a daily runner in the spring till early fall. We use it as a box hauler. Hauling about 0-700 boxes per wagon maximum weight i think it ever hauled was like 5000lbs. 30% rubber left on it. Power Reverser Transmission. We had 2 Problems with it. The front axle started leaking fluid at 2000 Hours replaced for around 4000. And a new starter that's all. These tractors are easy to maintain, strong, and pretty much you would expect from John Deere excect the axle problem.. We have some drivers that drive like A**h***s. If were not using this tractor we would be using our 5420 or our 5085M to do this job. Overall this tractor is very strong. But it will be needed to be ballasted if hauling heavy or loader work.

So far everything seems to be ok with it. Only a very few minor things. I too have the power reverser model. I think I am going to take it to the local jd dealer and have them change the funds etc.... I have the 460 loader and the jd 48 backhoe. The tires are ca filled. For the size of this machine it seems like it has good power.

Do you use the 4wd on yours ?
I am wondering if that contributed to the axle failure.

Thanks

Al

Yes we do use 4WD we have some workers that drive with 4WD on the road so it might of happened from there. Which is pretty hard on the axle.

That was a typo. I wanted to say" take it to the dealer to change the fluids". However, after reading Chucks post with the info on how to change the gear oil, axles, fuel filter. I think I will do it myself.

Thanks.

I have had one now for about 3 years and have put about 200 hours a year on it. It is a power reverser model and I have had 0 problems with it. I keep all the fluids and filters changed and use it. Below are some pictures of it doing different jobs. I use on a 10 ft wheel disk, 10ft field cultivator, sprayer and a 2 bottom plow mostly. I also do a little snow removal in the winter with it.

Bought one new 10 years ago. Power reverser, 460 loader and JD hoe. Just keep fluids changed and run it. Excellent piece of equipment. Enjoy!

I have a 4700 as well. (Hydro) Has performed very well for the short time I have owned it. I purchased used 2 years ago. (2000 model year) However, it only had 95 hours on it. Had all fluids/filters changed, then put it to work hauling logs. After receiving the bill for the fluid/filter service, I now change them myself. By the way, this is one strong machine. I am new to tractors, and feel I could'nt have made a better choice in choosing this tractor.

I've got a 4720 (second tractor) and learned quickly to do my own maintenance - the dealer takes too long, does not do that great of a job, your tractors sits outside, the dealer charges as much to services as my BMW does! Besides all that...it's fun to do it yourself.

I have a 03 4710 with a 460 loader, 448 backhoe, graple, forks, snow push, wallenstien bx 62 hyd. chipper. bought it with 31 hrs on it in 06(along with service and parts manuals), loaded the ag. tires with citruis(110 gallons worth), bolted a set of 175 lb. each john deere wheel weights on it.....this tractor was probably the best money I have ever spent. two problems in the 708 hrs I have put on it, one big and one small. this past summer the 3pt. hitch suddenly wouldnt lift all the way so i immediatly took it into the shop and studied the parts and service manuals...disassembled it to find two screws had worked there way out and only by a miricle missed the ring and pinion gears, the second was the startup relay would intermitently make it not start, these tractors always start with a tap:):):)
