Any kind of recourse for land getting logged behind me?

Good god, I'm not trying to tell him to do what he wants with his land. I'm trying to see if I have any recourse to make sure the logger cleans up his mess.

I agree, his land, do what he wants with it. But I feel as if the logger should clean up his mess, and from what I've heard about this particular one...it sounds like he wont, hence my question.

The short answer is no, you probably can't affect the outcome.

I would still like to know what you mean by a 'mess.' Is it possible that people have the impression that if it doesn't look like a city park, it's a mess?

I agree you are trying to do the neighborly thing first. Have a neighborly discussion and see where it goes. If he rebuffs you, no harm, but you might create a win-win bond. Can't lose. Take cookies along, maybe pie too. Visit as a concerned neighbor, not a land owner. You do have his well being in mind. Good luck.

Depending on how the loggers leave the neighboring land it could effect him in the form of run-off, ect. I believe that is what he is concerned about. OP, please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think he's worried he's going to end up with a view like this:

Well, it would be in color at least. That looks like part of a clear cut with a lot of ground disturbance from equipment.

Since biomass and wood pellet production have grown offering a market for "whole tree" harvests, foresters are working on how much slash should be left on the ground to maintain soil, residual stand, and regeneration health. The thinking is taking the whole tree is not good. Of course, being foresters who need to make a profit, they want to know what minimum percentage to leave is optimum.

Post-harvest a wood lot does look messy to people but in reality it should look like someone left a bunch of tops and limbs scattered around. If you think about it, that is the closest approximation to what happens naturally with wind-throws, dropped limbs and toppled old trees.

In a forest life cycle that is the condition everything from the soil to woodland animals is attuned to and prepared to utilize. A typical harvest result would still be missing most of the natural equivalents of upturned roots and stem logs that lay and rot.

It's the property owners land not yours, if you don't like what he does with his property then move or buy it from him.

Okay folks, the OP has responded not to clarify, but to restate his question which was and still is "Does he have any recourse if the logger, who has a reputation for doing sub standard work, leaves a mess" (paraphrased).

From what I read, He isn't trying to stop the neighbor from logging the property. Probably enough piling on has been done telling him to mind his own business about what the neighbor wants to do with his land.
