I can't tell you how many movies/shows set in the 1860's have had Colt Model 1873 Peacemakers in them.
Oh yeah, that is so common. Especially Civil war and all of the big bore cartridge center fire revolvers. The .45 acp 1911 deployed on the movie Titanic. Set in April of 1912 Possible? Yes. Probable? No way. And a 1903 browning would have done just as well and been a heck of a lot more convincing to guys like me.
Hasn't the M16 and variations been the regular issue service rifle longer than any other?

I caught that too; did a bit of research and decided that it was possible, but not likely. I also wondered how a civilian...albeit a rich one...obtained such a fancied up military firearm so soon.
