you have to be carefull how you push the enbloc clips into the action, otherwise the action eats your thumb.

as mentioned, the garand gas/pressure curve is indeed designed around 150gr m2 ball... otherwise op rod damage can occur.

165 and 180gr hunting ammo can make higher pressures.. plus you need to make sure the ammo feeds correctly from the enbloc clips... there are cheap repops out on the market that flex too much and don't feed well.

lastly, keep in mind at the end of each clip you get a nice 'cling!' as it tosses the empty clip out ( and lets the enemy know you just ran dry ;) )

You could deface your gun with a adjustable gas nut to use other ammo, or handload ammo or buy 150/m2 ball for it... I'd be warry of other hunting ammo without knowing it's pressure... these old girls aren't getting any younger, no need to beat on them.

I want to know how these rifles doubled their weight in 55 years.

Long ago I could easily carry one while running up hills. Now when I handle one, it needs wheels.

... IF you want to be double safe there are aftermarket adjustable gas nuts that allow you to tune the operation with any ammo. ...
These gas nuts (2 main types) are easy to replace so no need to think it 'ruins the aesthetic' of your M1. Switch to an adjustable for hot ammo, put back the original for milsurp.

Speaking of milsurp, why not buy some ammo when you buy your Garand? CMP sells that, too. Source changes from time to time, the Hornady is terribly expensive, the Greek surplus reasonable.

You need to belong to an affiliated organization to buy from the CMP, so I joined the Garand Collectors Association. Useful group to belong to: Garand Collectors Association

Picked up a very nice M1 Garand through DCM many years ago. I moved 2 years ago and it got lost somewhere along the way. :(
