My FirePower oxygen regulator is leaking. So, should I send it out, or find a re-build kit.

You can replace it for less than a rebuild these days. But. You can remove the front bonnet and clean the needle and seat and diaphragm and it may stop leaking. The only thing that causes problems in regulators is dirt particles.

I have a Firepower set I bought in 92, I have sent both regulators in for "refurbishing" at different times. I think the price was around $65 on my Oxy this past March.

When I took it in this last time, I was pondering getting a new set, (trade-ins) but the welding shop said it would be hard to find "good old set" like the Firepower.

I never did really think of doing it myself though.

Some places won't just sell you the parts anymore. Apparently some idiot got injured trying to diy. So now, they want you to send it in for repair. $$$ I hate this. Really pisses me off.

Ok, guys, thanks I'll take it apart and clean it. Geeze, $65 for a re-build? I can buy a whole used set for $100, so I guess that ain't going to happen.

"No country for old men".............. appropriate and applies to me!

I know most people reading this thread know that OXYGEN and any oil base cleaners do not Mix!!! But! there might be a newbee reading that don't so, WD40, airkoil, and most all solvents is asking for a blow out when the Oxygen gets to it! Work and be safe.

First thing they told us in metal shop: don't oil the oxygen tank valves and regulators.

Thanks, I was not planning on oiling it, but didn't even think about the O2 vs oil thing. So would a de-greaser type like Simple Green be ok? I use that for just about everything.

You can download Victor manuals off their website, and solvents like pure acetone are suitable for cleaning. Plenty of rebuild kits online.

OADoctor posts on Weldingweb and is a helpful fellow. Get the actual part number off YOUR housing to get a proper kit.

250-15-510 Repair Kit

Regs are easy to do, but work CLEAN, repeat CLEAN.

Usually the seat leaks and if I open a regulator it gets a kit. Do not reuse O-rings etc.
