Any one have coyote problems?

We have a little Maltese we take out at night on a leash. Haven't seen any yotes yet, & I usually have a 45 on me. I guess the one that thought he'd help himself to the big lab mix was in for a surprise. There was hardly any bones left. We were gone for a week, but saw him dragging the yote to a nice dining spot. I've seen him eat cats & rabbits , head & all. However he has a gentle side. One day carried a few day old rabbit to me completely in his mouth and gently dropped it in front of my feet unharmed ?
We also have bears & bobcats around.

My wife's cousin in New Mexico makes a living leading guided coyote hunts and conducting training in calling and hunting them.
