The Befco website says the recommended HP range for that mower is 30-80HP. My JD falls in the middle of this range. This is a finish mower, not a heavy duty rotary/bush hog type batwing.

Should I really be concerned about a lack of HP, given the manufacturer's specs?

I think your tractor will do fine, as long as you're cutting a finished lawn or just grasses that aren't too tall (8"-10" maximum).

I have a 15 ft woods finish mower and it makes quick work out of mowing. Generally mowe at 4.5 miles per hour in fourth gear corresponding to 540 rpm on the pto. Have a few hills as well and do not have to downshift at all and it maintains constant speed.

I think I'm going to go with a 15' batwing finish mower, knowing that if the grass gets too high or is wet I can always take a first pass with my Woods 7' rotary cutter.

The dealer is asking $10,500 for the used Befco. I've been looking online and from what I can tell this price is probably high. Seems similar new units from Woods and Bush Hog can be bought new for around $11-12,000.

Any opinions on the price?
