Any opinions on the Nissan Versa?

My thoughts are forget about mileage and get the safest car on the planet.

I talked to a Highway Patrol Officer and they all buy older big tanks for their kids. I asked him why and he said he sees all the accidents and the cars that win in an accident are the big American made tanks, never the cheap foreign cars.

I bought my wife on of those cute foreign jobs that saved a ton of gas. One day it just came over me to sell it and I sold it for a pretty good loss and got her an American SUV.

Sure enough shortly after I got her the vehicle she was hit head on by an illegal alien that left the scene. She didn't get a scratch and he hit her with a pretty good size car. Talking with the officer and explaining what I had just sold he said she would be dead if she was in that car and I agree.

Three kids just got killed in a little tin can after leaving school and hitting a tree and they were only traveling the speed limit 50Mph according to witnesses.

When it comes time for my daughter to get a car she's going to be driving the larges gas guzzling SUV I can find, and she will not have a say so in it.

Well thanks guys for all the input.

After 2 weeks of looking at all first and second tier offerings in my area three choices made it to test drive:
Hyundai Elantra
Nissan Spectra
Ford Focus,

The first tier offerings (Accent, Versa, Fiesta) were all deemed to small.

Ford Focus lost due to size and dealerships. With me in the drivers seat the drivers seat back was against my wife's knees behind me, the other two cars left a few inches. The several Ford dealerships also tried to pull stunts (extra charges, half quotes).

Nissan was neck in neck, but Hyundai won on warranty and actually a lower price. Both of these vehicles are almost identical.

Had a similar experience looking for a car for my daughter. I've had lots of Fords and wanted to have her consider a Fiesta but I'll tell you I couldn't find one for under $19,000. I couldn't find one anywhere near the $16,000 price point. They were all so loaded, I'm not sure who they think they are marketing towards. There's been a pretty lime green one sitting at my local Ford dealership for two months now! Anyway we test drove the Honda Fit, Nissan Versa and Scion Xd. The Versa had the most people room, the Honda had the most versatility, but the Scion was the funnest to drive,had the most cargo space, had the most standard safety features (stability control,antilock brakes,traction control,air bags all the way around) and even came with 2 years free maintenance and ended up being the best value.

Hyundai makes a **** fine car now days. I rent about 15 to 20 cars a month in my flying job and I have to say the Hyundai is on par if not a little ahead of Honda and Toyota since about the 2007 model year.

I have driven just about every car and truck on the market. I even got a Jaguar last month in St Louis as a free upgrade. My favorite truck to drive is the Tundra (only driven a 2 wheel drive model), my favorite small SUV is the Suzuki, Mid-Size SUV is the Explorer and the Cherokee as a tie, large SUV is the Expedition, compact car is the Hyundai, and the 4 door sedan is the Volvo S60.

My worst list that I refuse when they bring them out is the Jeep/Dodge Liberty/Nitro, the Chrysler PT Cruiser, and the Chevy HHR.

Agreed! I saw the new Genesis on the road the other day and thought it was a Mercedes.
