_RaT_ said:I bought a Kubota L48 with a loan from Carvers back in North Carolina or was it South, either way, I got away with no sales tax for about 1 year, thats when the franchise tax board sent me a letter informing me I owed tax. The year was 2001. I came up with my price because I did get to deduct not the shipping cost but the "packaging" cost. The packaging was very expensive.![]()
Interesting. Did you deduct the cost of your tractor as a biz expense on
a tax return? My understanding is that if you buy ANY capital equipment and
don't have a record of paying sales or "use" tax on it, the CA Franchise Tax
board will come after you since they know about it. If you buy anything
out of state, you do owe CA "use" tax. It could be that book puchased from
Amazon.com or that tractor from OR. You can volunteer to pay it, but I
doubt that there will be any enforcement if the state knows nothing of it,
as they won't if it is not reported.
I visited several Kubota dealers in OR in 2004 and L3130GSTs w/ the 723
loader ran mid $17K and $500-1K more for HST. That was in Tangent
and Rickreall. Some of the quotations on this thread are amazingly
low, given that it is 2 y later. Maybe they ARE clearing out the Grand L
30s before the Grand L 40s are in......
