Re: Any other \"unfinished\" projects???
Ok, I'll use this thread as a bit of therapy for a project "junkie" with too little personal free time, young kids and a job that requires a lot of travel. Here goes:
Project 1:
My 28x40 pole barn with 16x28 second floor still needs the first floor rafters, then all of the steel roof panels, the rough cut board and batten siding, the doors, the deck off the second floor door, and the ground level drainage work.
Project 2:
Well, the 180 grape vines are in the ground, but the deer fence still needs to be finished. The plot is about 200 x 140. At least the grapes have grow tubes around them to keep the deer off. (I put them on this weekend, after seeing all of the early season growth eaten by the deer). After the deer fence, the holes for the trellis system have to be dug, and the posts set and wire strung. Since the vines are new, this can wait.
Project 3:
The house has several poor drainage areas, and some of the drain pipe the builder put in just ends in the middle of the yard. I tilled the wet side of the house (on a dry day) and now I need to grade it out. Then I need to dig several hundred feet of french drains and fill with gravel. I also dug a trench for power to the pole barn that is "roughly" filled in, and needs to be graded along the 300 foot length of it.
Project 4:
I have an old oil tank cut open in the process of becoming a pig roaster.
Project 5:
I have most of the stuff for a top n tilt setup, but the quick couplers I ordered are too large, and the fittings on the hoses were supposed to be 90 degree swivels (I ordered the wrong code). I need to correct those problems, and then I can weld the eyes to the cylinders and install the setup. It should be slick, and help a lot with the grading I need to do.
Project 6:
I cut many overgrown Xmas trees over the last 2 years, and the stumps have to go! I have ripped and tilled in some areas, and that will need to be raked (lots of rocks). Then I need to keep cutting back the old trees and rip and till the newly cut areas. The reclaimed land will be split between more grape vines, new trees (but fewer of them, so I can keep up with them) and new lawn.
These are just the ongoing projects. There are many others that I haven't yet started, like the driveway landscaping/retaining wall, and the backyard landscaping, and the backyard garden. At least I have no shortage of things to give me more seat time! The way I figure it, by the time I'm ready to retire (20 years at least), I may have some of these things done.
