Good point. Have owned border collies, myself. Great dogs.
This county is a leash law county.... all dogs anywhere in the county should be on a leash or otherwise controlled. I hunt deep inside my 200+ acres. Unless a dog is already inside my property, he would not be able to hear a call. Hopefully, I would recognize a dog versus coyote. Exceedingly rare for me to shoot only at eyes...I wait for them to come in closer, or exhibit behavior that indicates their species...coon, cat, cow, calf, possum, deer, coyote...in fact, can't recall last time I shot at something that I did not positively identify. Well..there was the time when I was about 20 when I shot a nutria. First and last one I've ever shot. I had identified it as "none of the above" before I shot, but didn't know what it WAS.
I'm not perfect, but I do try to be responsible and identify my target before shooting.
