NH changed their website to list it as a "concept vehicle". I guess they figured out that neither the gas station model nor home charging was practical.
33,000 in it's entire manufacturing lifetime would barely fill the dealer pipeline. I don't think many people even knew about them, much less bought one. There were 800,000 Yugos made during it's lifetime. I highly doubt there are any collectors out there that were thrilled about what a great idea they were, either.Yes, General Electric (GE) made a battery-powered lawn mower called the Elec-Trak in the 1970s. The Elec-Trak was the first commercially produced all-electric garden tractor.
How was the Elec-Trak different?
How popular was the Elec-Trak?
- Quiet: The Elec-Trak was quieter than gasoline-powered mowers, which can vibrate and create fatigue.
- No emissions: The Elec-Trak produced no emissions.
- Reliable: The Elec-Trak's simple design made it reliable.
- The Elec-Trak was popular with a small group of people.
- It has a cult following among tractor and electric vehicle enthusiasts.
- Many Elec-Traks are still in use today.
Who made the Elec-Trak?
- GE made the Elec-Trak at its Outdoor Power Equipment Operation from 1969 to 1975.
- GE also marketed the Elec-Trak under the New Idea brand.
- Wheel Horse later bought the Elec-Trak.
Purchasing a golf cart battery would be a back breaker back then.33,000 in it's entire manufacturing lifetime would barely fill the dealer pipeline. I literally just saw a Ford Maverick at my dealer.....those little sub compact trucks....and it was the electric hybrid version. $102,000!!!! Bahahaha. The big three jumped on the greed wagon. They priced themselves right out of the Automobile market gas or electric.
The difference was, back then these new technologies actually worked and were an improvement over what was out there at the time.Every day I think the Liberal for, electricity, motor vehicles, tractors, gas and diesels, air conditioning, air planes, electric hot water heaters, electric stoves, microwave, etc , etc.
Just think what it would be like trying to live like our grand parents who were born in the 1800’s lived.
Just think what it would be like without the cell phone. What about the Internet?
It’s comical and saddening when one compares today’s quest for new technology to years ago.
Take the train. Horse/mule drawn Freight haulers used violence in some locations to prevent people from building railroads to expedite the movement of freight by rail instead of horse/mule and wagon. Then came trucks, tractors and trailers. About everything we touch daily arrived on a plane, train or truck.
I am also sure people raised holy hell about Henry Ford bringing forth the Model -T for transportation.
The electric car is the next technology step in moving forward and not standing still or regressing. Will the shake down introduction be smooth and trouble free no. Why, because they are being built by humans who have flaws.
I think the turning point in Electric vehicles is approaching.
Japan Company Toyota is investing heavily in new battery technology and are talking a 900 mile range with a 10 minute recharge battery.
I really believe they didn't even work as advertised for real. All that self driving and "follow me" features. No way.NH changed their website to list it as a "concept vehicle". I guess they figured out that neither the gas station model nor home charging was practical.

Yes, they sucked hard at the government teat and thought they could replicate Tesla's success of starting with high end models but at high volume. Ended up with mediocre product at premium prices. The big three jumped on the greed wagon. They priced themselves right out of the Automobile market gas or electric.
You know today's Conservative would be considered a Classic Liberal of years gone by?Every day I think the Liberal for, electricity, motor vehicles, tractors, gas and diesels, air conditioning, air planes, electric hot water heaters, electric stoves, microwave, etc , etc.
