I guess I should have not said it smokes until warmed up,
it really only smokes for about 20-30 seconds until it clears up.
I would think this is normal?
I know diesel's smoke on start up but some smoke a bit
more than others.
My Ford PowerStroke only smokes a tid bit on a cold start up.
So how long do most of the other's out there smoke on
a cold start up?
The only reason I went with the 3820 rather than the 4020
was the 4cly cummins in the 3820.

Mine only has a couple of puffs of smoke right at startup. I'm sure there would be more in colder tempatures.

My only regret is not having the Branson for the last 20 yrs....especially when I built my own home. It's been a lot of fun having it around to help me out. Best money I've spent in a long time.

To Gene....are you getting white smoke at start up? Assume you are fully cycling your glow plugs before starting? If you are, and still get the smoke, I would discuss with your dealer. They may have a tweak for this, either through changes to the glow plug system or injector pump timing.

White smoke, I'd say it's closer to blue smoke.
I do cycle the glow plugs by the light time, I've even tried
to cycle it twice before starting to see if that would help.
I'll give it a bit more time to brake in before I contact my dealer.
20 hr's may bit a bit soon but getting close?
Now the bad thing is it's a 2 1/2 trip oneway to the dealer,
lets see.....thats 10 hr's of driving total, so I'll give it
a few more hr's .
If any thing I think it may be the injector pump needing
adustment also, or maybe a bad glow pulg?
Seems real rich and it stumbles at start up, only cold.
Runs great after about 1 min.

I came down to this when I got my Century.

1. I could have goten a used tractor, but just try to find one in good condition that has power steering, four wheel drive, and a loader. Trust me the choice is slim.

2. I could get one of the big names but they pretty much average $20,000 and up. Thats out of my budget.

3. I could have gotten some chinese tractor, but by the time you get the loader and all that the price is close to the Century and the quality is not there.

So the choice was simple for me and as it's been said many times in this fourm, "you cant get a better tractor for the money".

I agree %100. these are the same conclusions that I came to while tractor hunting. Locally there is a 1986 MF 450(?) tractor with a loader, forks, and Land Pride finish mower for sale. This tractor has 2900 hours on it and looks like it. They are asking $14,500 and have reduced there price from $16,000!!!

No. The money I saved sits very well in my bank than someone elses wallet. I have a 3520 and a backhoe. I would recommend buying the backhoe if you can swing it. My backhoe was the best addition to the whole thing. I've got 56 hours on it and use it firmly. I would also recommend adding a belly pan to protect hoses and fittings underneath. However, you must be happy with the brand you choose- if you only feel comfortable with the top names, then those are your choice. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
