Wisconsin has an 31 cents per gallon refund by Department of Revenue for off road use. You have to use at least 100 gallons a year to apply for the refund.

Yes, the off-road red diesel is not taxed as heavily as on-road diesel. I can buy any quantity down to one gallon and the savings are at the pump for any yahoo that wants it. No registration or paperwork required. The only rule is that you must fill a tank or drum. No jerry cans. I buy 25 gallons at a time since if you try and fill a barrel with more than that it gets very hard to move. Fresher supply too.

Diesel at the cheapest place in town was 3.19 that day and my price per gallon of off road was 2.68 for the 51 cents per gallon savings. I paid with a credit card and went on my way. My only cost was the 11$ rotary pump that is cast iron and has performed admirably so far to pump 75 gallons.

Going to off-road paid for itself within 22 gallons and now I pocket the difference plus benefit by always having diesel on hand.
