any special tools or misc. parts needed? JD 2520

I have a JD 2520 almost ready for delivery in a few weeks. I was wondering if there are any special tools or "time saving" tools you would recommend to have on hand that will make owning this tractor easier. I have a full complement of standard mechanics type tools, but will certainly pick up any specialty tools that I need.

If it helps, I will have the 200cx loader, 62D MMM, iMatch, and possibly may add a rear blade in the near future.

Anything needed tool-wise? How about spare parts (like pins, etc.)?

After 45 hours this summer I haven't found anything yet, except for adding an ammo box on the back to hold a few hand tools.

Some of this you may already have but here is my pennies worth:

If your hand tools include metric tools than you should be ok.

Tools for filter and fluid changes.

Not needed but a nice to have is an impact gun for changing your mower blades. Otherwise you will need a block of wood and a breaker bar.

Change all the cotter pins on your mower mechanical lift arms (if you are getting this lift) with heavier clips. Some pins may have the circle clips and those seem last better than the cotter pins. Maybe have the dealer do this before delivery. The cotter pins tend to break and cause problems you want to avoid. A quick search on here and you will see pictures of bent arms.

Otherwise enjoy your tractor.

Ensure you get a set of bushings with your iMatch. JD is suppose to send one set (pair) with the iMatch. These will be needed if you decide to move forward with that rear blade.

And congrats! We just took delivery of our 2520 2 weeks ago...love it.

I've got a whole assortment of metric tools, so that's covered.

Good point on the cotter pins on the mower deck. I will ask that those be replaced before delivery. Easier for them to do it than me.

For the iMatch bushings, I asked for the ballast box to be setup with them as I will need to use the box with the FEL if I don't have the rear blade.

Anything else to check on?

At minimum, a large funnel for fueling this thing up. You will soon be faced with the pain of getting diesel into it. Personally, I built a small 'diesel station' in my garage with a fuel pump where I pump the fuel into it from 5 gallon containers.

X 2 on the recommendation for replacing some of the cotter pins with lynch pins. I did this on the three-point assembly too - makes switching to the backhoe faster and no tools required.

Get a long-necked funnel for adding hydro fluid and oil.

As for things to look for on delivery -

Yours will probably be equipped with the "new style" three point arms, but double-check this anyway, because it is an uphill battle to get them replaced later

Might want to make sure they deliver it with the plastic guards that go over the PTO shafts for protection when there is nothing attached. Mine was only delivered with one and JD gets $25 for them at the parts counter.

Make sure your loader pin nuts are torqued properly...my dealer missed one on mine and the nut vibrated loose and fell off within the first hour of use.

Make sure they give you the owner's manual and the DVD that is supposed to come with the machine.

Might not be a bad idea to ask to check it over at the dealer before they deliver it. I did a pre-delivery inspection on mine and found that they put a big scratch in the fender when installing the power beyond.

Diesel fuel can if you dont already have one. I went with a 14 gal fuel caddy which I store elevated to make fueling gravity fed easy.

Grease gun with a flexible hose and different set of adapters to reach the hard to grease places.

Your first major service occurs at 50 hours. You can buy a filter pack from JD that includes all the filters you need. Also JD offers a synthetic engine oil called Plus-50. Make sure you have an oil drain/fill kit. The oil filter is quite narrow so most car filter wrenches dont fit. I found med sized channel lock pliers worked for me.

I find I am often moving/lifting stuff with the FEL/bucket. Sure you can add hooks onto your bucket and use a chain. I plan on doing this (eventually). In the mean time I simply use a 2" x 20 ft nylon tow strap with hooks on both ends. What I do is simply place a hook on the bottom of the bucket over cutting edge. Strap wraps around the back of the bucket, over the top, outside the FEL arm, then connects through whatever I'm lifting and back to the opposite side of the bucket over the top, outside the FEL arm and down around the back of the bucket to hook on the cutting edge. Makes for an easy lift and move of all kinds of stuff and the nylon strap does not scratch up what your lifting. Same strap pulls stuck cars in the winter time

I've got 2 5-Gal diesel jugs I've been shuffling with my loaner tractor. So that's covered.

Also the dealer will be welding on hooks on the bucket. That should be covered.

Really, just kinda nervous about the FEL with 53" bucket to keep a 1/3 mile long asphalt driveway clear of snow in the winter. I'm sure it will work, but wondering if an additional rear blade may not be a wise buy as well.

I just drive down the block to the off road fuel pump, so I've never really given the whole fuel can thing much thought. :thumbsup:
