I spilled gas once when the nozzle wasn't on right for some reason in a trunk of a malibu. I took everything out, rug, spare tire cover and spare tire parts. left it in the garage hanging up and used a old rag to clean up the rest of the feul. It took nearly a month for the car to completely air out,
(have sensitive nose).

Well, I wanted to say try a match??? But I am afraid someone would. The best thing I have found is a good old furnance fan for getting smells out of houses with a 'ozone' machine. I would wash everything and then dry it out of the car.

You need to use activated charcoal/carbon. We use it at work to absorb gasoline spills and etc.

Spilt about 4 gallons in the back seat floor of my Dodge once.
Used a cold chisel to make a drain hole in floor and then flooded it with water. and detergent
let it dry. This was about he only car with a solid floor LOL (no rust)

I spilled sour milk in a hatchback once. The smell was brutal. Air fresheners were not an option with that putrid odor. I removed the carpet after a day and threw it in the wash machine. I let it dry on the line and it was as good as new. It's worth the effort if you want the smell out 100% and fast.

Smells Begone is the product. It absorbes the odor as opposed to masking it.

My mom did the exact same thing as you and used this product. Took care of it no problem.

I spilled kerosene on the rug in one of my vans once. I wet the area w water. Made a slurry (paste) of Arm & Hammer baking powder w a small amount of water. I worked this slurry into the wet spot w my fingers. Let air dry then vacuumed w the shop vac. Spread some more dry baking powder on the area. Left it for a few weeks and then vac'd again. Smell gone!

Yes I agree you'll have to take everything out and wash it then use a couple fans to blow it out well. However, worth a try: a few sheets of "Bounce" has great success with similar things but gas? well,...try it.

Just DON'T put moth balls in as some might suggest !! Worse !

Good luck to you ! Try the Bounce. Let us know "what" worked please.

Car Odor Removal

Gas Spills and Gas Odors

Gas Spills and the associated Gas Odors in your cars carpeting or other surfaces can be tricky because the gas is an oil and the surface tension of the gas MUST be broken down to enable ForceOut Odor Eliminator to penetrate the odor causing compounds. This can be done by simply adding about 1 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid to every 16 oz. of ForceOut. The dishwashing detergent will help break down the surface tension and allow ForceOut to penetrate the gas spill and neutralize the odor.

If the spill has penetrated deep in the carpet matting or any other soft surface area (carpeting, upholstery, etc.), it is recommended that you use a carpet cleaning machine to penetrate the surface. Just fill the cleaning tank with the above ForceOut detergent mixture. Remember, ForceOut must make contact with the gas odor to eliminate the odor.

We used to use cans of coffee (unbrewed) in box trucks to absorb chemical smells.. open cans spread the coffee around.. Seemed to work for us then
