While I suspect I am one of the "smart alecs" with a (not 1 but 2!) cnc plasmas......I have been known to cut out holes for grommet mounted trailer lights with a hand torch. I usually fabricate a template out of cardboard that is 1/2 of the shield diameter (or nozzle diameter on an unshielded torch) larger in diameter, tape the cardbord to the piece of material where the light goes, and cut it with the hand plasma.
That is the way I used to do it.....now I cut the template from some gauge steel on my cnc, attach a couple of magnets to hold it in location, and cut with a hand torch. I have a bunch of these templates made for different size holes.
It is difficult to gt my cnc plasma machine up on the side of an already built trailer frame!
