Yep, it's aggravating! Y'all about said all I was thinking, so no need to repeat. Common sense, and respect for people, that'd solve it. Hey, it probably ain't going to get solved!

I'm always amazed at how each person has their own driving style. Where I grew taking drivers-ed, we were taught if you're going to pass, pull out get it done ASAP and pull back in. If I'm running 75, and know there are cars coming behind me and I pull out to pass, I might be up to 85 by the time I get around the person I'm passing. Also, I never understand the logic of slowing down when passing a tractor-trailer. I want to spend the least amount of time beside that truck as possible.

well we can explain why this passing deal goes on for day's but being out there for 13 years tells me the only way you will understand why they do that is to be one of them. then you will have a very clear explanation of why it happens.gotta a long ways to go and a short time to get there.there is alot of things don't make any sence to you untill you wear the shoes just don't drink the kool aid.

Completely agree...I was taught the same way...My Dad taught me when pulling out to pass...to go ahead , accelerate and pass don't dilly dally in the left lane...and I too may get up to 85 passing ....I think most folks go slow passing since they are afraid of a ticket...being exposed in the left lane like that makes you a target...so they pass with as little excess speed as necessary....I am like you...I don't want to spend any time lingering next to a semi truck...

I'm not a trucker, but I think if you made a list of inconsiderate things done on the highway, you'd find car drivers way up on the list above truckers. I've watched car after car of inconsiderate idiots pull in front of trucks and hit their brakes so the trucker has to smoke his tires to get slowed down. I follow the rule that if a trucker has his blinker on, you should let him move over. I slow down, but that seems to not be the norm. I've seen so many truckers get boxed in and forced to wait on a huge long line of traffic before being allowed to pull out and around a slow vehicle (often an overloaded pickup pulling an overloaded trailer). Yep, if I had to make a list of inconsiderate idiots, truckers would be way down on my list most of the time.

Amen brother!
As a former LEO, every accident I have ever worked involving a semi, it was a "4 wheeler" that caused the accident. Not saying some truckers dont cause accidents, but the incident level is much less. Consider this : A Trucker knows that he is in a vehicle that loaded can average 80,000#, special permit loads can top 100K. They are well aware of the inertia involved in controlling a heavy load and also aware of "load shifting" which can greatly change the dynamics.

Not to say they dont break the rules, I have certainly issued citations to truckers and there response runs the same gambit as any other driver, but most are well aware how easy it is to loose their CHL, which in turn is their living.

My personal pet peeve is tailgaters and few "mature" truckers will engage in it, not so with folks in "little" vehicles.

Not defending truckers, just trying to add some food for thought. Most are like the rest of us, want to get the job done and no one gets hurt.

I would agree with you! My post above was geared more toward car drivers and not truckers. In my experience while towing my fiver, truckers are much more considerate than car drivers, and I think that is because they "get it" and know what you are going through when towing a big load.

My experience towing my tractor, and our 5th wheel are similar. Cars are clueless, cut you off, pull in front of you and hit brakes, don't consider you safety buffer in larger vehicle...

For some reason, my bane is white Honda Civic's; I have been cut off by those to where antilocks on the truck are kicking in...

My pet peeve is cars; how come so many people can not merge without stopping traffic? How come so many have no clue what that little stick on the left of their steering column is, the one that makes the little blinky lights on the car(some might refer to them as TURN SIGNALS!)
