Hello all,
Great informative group yall have here.!
I’m currently looking at buying a new PT425.. but also came across a used 1430, that I’m hoping to get as well.
Is there anyway to determine the year of manufacture on it from the serial number?
If not, I’ll call PT tomorrow.

Welcome!

What kind of things do you have in mind for your future PT?

Welcome!

What kind of things do you have in mind for your future PT?

Mowing and maintaining a couple acres of hillside yard around the house, which mostly consist of patches of weeds between trees. Lol
Moving lots of manure, compost, dirt, brush, logs etc
Planting trees
Lots of fencerow and fence maintenance
Basically a do it all tool. Over terrain, that is difficult to access with a regular tractor.
I will be keeping a regular tractor for most of our field and foodplot work.

Dorry for the lag @Goose1776 - was traveling for work this week (for the first time in over a year....felt VERY weird to be honest...).

Very cool! That sounds a lot like my application.

For moving miscellaneous loads, you'll have a choice between the loose material bucket and the 4-in-1 bucket. Sounds like the 4-in-1 might be a better choice for you since you'll have a use for the blade-like function and being able to bottom dump from it will be helpful. I got the lose material bucket since 90% of my loads are things like mulch.

For planting trees - which I'm going to be doing a lot of - there's two heads. One pivots and the other doesn't. I went with the pivoting one but either could do. If you need to spin a larger auger you'll want the fixed one though.

Fencerows.....could get a smaller auger (like 6" or 9') to make that job a lot easier. On the big PTs there's a hydraulic post driver but a PT-425 is a little light for that job!

You're on the right path for a "Swiss army knife" tool, and one that has better maneuverability than a regular tractor.

I’ll have to go to Va and try out the different implements..
I was initially set on getting the PT-1430. Until I found out, it is currently not available.
I would spend the extra money and get the 2430, but after talking to Terry, he said it will probably be too too heavy and unstable, for my uses.
Sooo. I’m going to have to go try the 425 out, and see if it will do everything I want. That I cannot do with my tractor.
Or, maybe sell my current, big tractor and buy a PT1460, and a Pt425. And have the best of both worlds.
Decisions decisions.

Having seen both a 1430 and a 425 next to each other, the 425 has way better maneuverability with a tight turning circle, but the 1450 can bring the torque when you need it. Both is great if you can swing it!
