Even though Casino games are designed to get your money, there are opportunities if you approach it right.
If you play the games a recreation only you are doomed from the start. Serious gamblers in general stay away from the slot machines, they are a mechanical/electronic monster that can be programmed in more ways than you can think of. They call a push a win for statistical analysis, do not believe the posted % return. Table games have specific odds for each proposition that can only be changed by individual players playing outside the basic strategy for each game. Contrary to common thought what other players do has insignificant effect on what you do.
Simple rules if you want to become serious:
- Learn the games and the odds for different situations, there are plenty of books out there and they explain this stuff and the basic strategy to capitalize on opportunities.
- do not put money on a proposition that has poor odds. 10-1 is not good, 2-1 doesn't increase your bankroll.
- Where allowed, add the max odds bet behind your base bet. A 2-1 proposition; that odds bet pays at the true odds of the proposition.
- get some of the houses money in front of you; increase the size of your bet. You cannot beat the house odds always playing the same bet, you have to use their money against them. This is called money management and is how you beat the house.
- Do not stay at a table if that table is continuing to win. Every one and thing is somewhere on the curve; ie, table, individual spot on the table, the dealer, the house, and you Remember this always based on the bell curve and your place on that curve for that game and that session cannot be changed by any thing you do except leave that table and find one that is on the curve favorable to you.
- The house changes your odds by pumping you full of free booze. Doesn't change you place on the curve but changes how you play it.
- So do not drink alcohol before playing or during playing. A drunk at the table can change a social atmosphere into an antagonistic one quick. Get away quick.
I used to spend a week in Vegas or Reno, gamble, go to shows (work on getting a comp), eat at fine restaurants, take tours, stay in nice hotels, or RV Parks. Get meals, hotel, RV park rent, shows and whatever else; all competed to lure me back to the tables to get their money back. Pay all the bills there plus go home with a few thousand to boot.I primarily played Blackjack and craps. A crap table running in the players favor can stack money up fast. Dies out, leave or they will get it all back.
Only the professional gamblers that have a large bankroll and play almost every day are the big winners. Some day though, you can hit a spot where you pick up $10K (I have once). Quit and send it home to your bank right then. A casual weekend and take home $500 of their money is success for us little guys.
Have Fun, Ron
