Around here, we don't need to hunt.

Just turn on your car at o'dark thirty, hit the high beams, come up to forty miles per hour, or so, and watch them stare you down.

Yep, wrecked the Chevy... twice in one week. Almost the same spot too...

I think I have set a world record. Yep.

This AM, managed to come around a corner, 40mph, 5mph under posted, five deer across the road.

STOMPED on the brakes and DOWNSHIFTED.

No place to go.

Lots of noise. Multiple hits.

Missed the one on the drivers side. Missed the one directly in front of me.
Nailed the one, possibly two on the passenger side. Maybe number four hit the tail bed when she bolted. Didn't see number 5.

Got out, picked up parts, no meat present. Well couldn't see anyway, it is dark.

Limped car to lot.

Calling insurance man... again....

Sheesh.

So far this season (archery and gun season) my brother and I have killed:
2 8 pt bucks
1 spikehorn
4 does

Good season. We still have one buck tag and 1 antlerless tag left, but I think we had enough for 2007.

Good season for sure.

I got a 5pt in Steuben Co along with 2 doe. I did go out in the swamp behind my place but didn't have any other luck.

Still, 3 in the freezer makes it look full again. I'm happy.

We've taken 2 young bucks and a doe over my dogs so far this year.

We're talking rabbits, right?

Hunted opening week and 3 days in late season, ended up with "Zip" I saw 12 doe the second day and nothing but tracks after that.

We've got about 10 days left in our season. Totals: Dad got a big, probably 180 pound 8 pointer. I got a nice 10 pointer at 175 pounds, my son got a decent 8 and a spike. All of that happened the first week. We continued to see does and small bucks for a while but for the last month, nothing! They've gone almost completely nocturnal as they usually do about this time of year.

So I've about given up on the deer and we've started rabbit hunting. At first it was so dry the dogs would put one up and then lose the scent after about 5 minutes. Very frustrating. Since we've had a little more rain we've done better. Got six last weekend.

I ran across this thread and thought I'd share some of my families 06 & 07 rifle season deer harvest pictures. I have hunted deer most my life and the last 2 years have been some of the best harvests. My avatar is another pic of my 06 mule deer. Rifle season here is the 2nd & 3rd week of November and the part of the state I hunt in (The Sandhills) has about a 50/50 mule deer/whitetail population.

EastTNFarmBoy - Nice droptine, sure don't see them too often.

Man, those are some nice animals you got out there.
Must be pretty nice to have a choice between the Muleys or Whitetails, especially that size. Those tall Mule deer reminds me of the ones I saw in Northern Utah a lot. Looks like your brother got a nice wide one. Do they interbreed out there sometimes?

Somebody is hunting. About an hour ago I was bringing in some firewood and I heard a pretty close gunshot from down by my barn. Every year I find a number of carcasses at the edge of my field that have the tenderloins and top hind quarters boned out.

I guess these dudes don't have time during the day to hunt, so they have to hunt at night with flashlights.

We've got a lot of deer around here. I just wish my neighbors would take them legally and have them checked. We have Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in our county, and it sure would be good if we could get accurate statistics.
