Re: anybody put a brushog rotary mower into a tru

I was looking at my pics and came across this one of my 5' brush hog loaded on top of a F350. It's not quite the situation you describe, but it does show a mower on a truck. The chains aren't on the tractor and load yet, and the backhoe isn't locked for transport. Notice the pallet that I have under the Bush Hog separating it from the Box Scraper. Having loaded Brush Hogs many times, I find the biggest thing to pay attention to isn't what to set it on as long as there is something to protect the truck and the mower, but to make sure that when I chain it to the loader to load, that I grab it at 3 points so that it doesn't swing around much. It does hang quite far out front of the tractor and if you're not careful it can put you off balance.

If I was loading into a smaller pickup, I would load at an angle. I would put 3 or 4 2x4's at an angle from the bed onto the side (with old towels or something to protect the paint) and I would lay a couple of 2x4's or 6's down so that the lower edge of the mower didn't hit the pickup side. Pallets would also work. Andy

Makes me miss my 350 dump truck I used to have.
Looks like you have it all on there, pushing the GVW though I would think.

Borrow a trailer. I picked one up last Summer, and it was hairy enough picking it off the trailer. Probably would've banged up a truck. Mine is a KK 60-incher, and it was difficult to get the right balance to keep it level when picking it up.................chim

I would agree with Andy that pallets are the best option. Just stack them up high enough so that the rotary cutter is up higher than the side of the pickup and strap it down good.

I'd certainly vote with the "borrow or rent a trailer" group here. When I got my 5' KK cutter, I had a neighbor who was interested in going for a ride anyway, hook up his trailer. Good thing. Trying to manouver it into the back of a pickup would be too much work. Take the easy and safe route. Drop it on a trailer!

Guys, does the same advice apply for a 5' finish mower as well? I'd planned on just putting it in my F150, but I have a trailer. Problem is it is a very long dive to the dealer. I could have it delivered unassembled, but after reading the posts on how hard it is to set up, I'd rather have the dealer do it. bw

I hauled a 6' woods RFM in back of fullsize Chevy truck.
They are shorter so it can go in sideways.
