Anybody running a TC33 with 6\' cutter?

Ma & Pa have decided to put me out of the field mowing business. We checked out tractors at the Fryberg fair. Poor showing by New Holland - only ONE tractor there - TC30.

Anyhow - They/We (I guess I'm the "expert" - or at least I can pretend I am since I've got all the tbn expertise at my fingertips) are thinking something a little bigger than the TC18.

Primary use is mowing the fields ( pics here )

Currently takes about 10 hours with the TC18 and a 4 foot cutter. I'm thinking that if the 14 PTO HP TC18 can handle a 4' cutter, that the 27 PTO HP TC33 can handle the 6 footer.

Stephen, some use the "rule of thumb" of saying 5 hp per foot of width, so 30 PTO hp for a 6' brush hog. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to use a 6' brush hog behind a TC33 with 27 PTO hp. I used a 5' one with my B2710 (20 PTO hp) and my cousin uses a 5' one behind his TC29.

Re: Anybody running a TC33 with 6\' cutter?

Hello,

I have a DX33, the Red version of the TC33. Last year I used my fathers 5ft cutter and this summer I picked up a 6ft Landpride cutter.

The area I cut is mostly grass and weed with some lite brush around the edges.

I don't think that I have to go any slower with the 6 footer, the tractor has enough power under normal situations to move as fast as the ground conditions let me with the 5 footer.

I didn't set up the slip clutch before I used it (seized up /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif??) and I did notice that when I tried to mow the dirt /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif that it would bog the tractor down, rather quickly if I didn't correct the problem.

From the looks of your property, I don't see any reason why you should have any trouble with a 6 footer on a TC33.

Re: Anybody running a TC33 with 6\' cutter?

I have a 99 tc33 hydro and I run a 6' Woods cutter. The 6' works for just about anything. The only time I have run into performance issues is then I've run into a thick patch of cat tails. That stuff is like hitting a ball of yarn with your mower. Other than that it works great.

Thanks guys. Always good to check a theory / rule of thumb against real-world results.

I'm running a 72" RM finish mower with my 33. With ease !!!

Re: Anybody running a TC33 with 6\' cutter?

I think it's anywhere from fine to marginal.

In that marginal equipment matchup, it depends just as much on what you are cutting as the HP. Tall weeds are hard to cut. Tall grass is even harder.

I run a 6' Woods cutter on my TC35, and it pulls it with ease. However, I don't allow my grass and weeds "get ahead of me". I suppose with it would just about max the TC35 out if my growth was tall and thick.

I had a TC29 and a 5 footer, and it had trouble with the thick stuff, but if I mowed at reasonable intervals, it was just fine.

I can't imagine hooking a 6 footer weighting 700# to my old TC29, but maybe your cutter is lighter and the TC33 is alittle more robust than my TC29 was.

Bottom line, it'll work great. Just don't let the weeds get the upper hand. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Anybody running a TC33 with 6\' cutter?

The dealer told me my NH 1920 would run a 6' cutter fine.. though i bought a 5' so i could use it onmy old fords as well.

If it takes you 10 hrs on a 4' cutter.. why not just get a big ag tractor used/cheap and get a big cutter.. like a 10'+

Howse makes a 3pt 10' cutter for 2300+tax. It will run pretty much on 50 hp tractor and up. That should really cut your mowing time!
