It's past time to replace the R4's on my L4400. I'm trying to decide what to buy, knowing technology has changed over the years. I spend much of my seat time driving on county roads to and from jobs, so wear is important to me. The size is 10-16.5, and the prices of r4's vs R14's seems to be a wash. Another thought is that I will need rears in a few years, so I might go with R14's for that too.

Thoughts from the group??

Thanks!

If I was buying a new CUT I'd want the R14's. I'm considering buying a tire groover for my front tires as the next best alternative.

I have investigated R14T tires since first learning of such about 18 months ago.

Initially, I was sold and planned to specify such on my next new tractor but have since changed my mind largely due to ballooning issues. The R14T tires that I have seen in person balloon noticably when compared to R4s. Indeed, the optional, oversized R-14Ts offered on the new LX series balloon badly.

Another issue to consider when comparing with R4s is that the R14Ts are 4 ply rated whereas R4s are 6 ply rated. Accordingly, the R14Ts will be less rugged.

Of course, the R14Ts put much less rubber on the road than do R4s so will wear considerably more quickly, especially on hard surfaces.

Just sold my New Holland TC24D with R4s back the first part of July. Took delivery of Kubota L3301 on July 29th with the R14s. A little more deflection with the loader than the R4s, but not terrible. I think folks are making a bigger deal of it than it is. I originally wanted R1s this time around because I was tired of lack of traction and filling up with mud on the R4s. Dealer talked me into the 14s - even though the tractor had R4s on it and he had to swap them. So far between the heavier tractor and the better traction, I'm a happy camper.

So they balloon when the loader is full? The Goodyear site says they wear better on the road, but that might be marketing talking..

No doubt, but ballooning is readily evident sitting in the showroom with no FEL attached.

I expect the Goodyear wear comment is vis a vis R-1 tires rather than R4s or R3s.

You need to take into consideration that the R14T's are radial tires and the R4's are most likely bias.

I have r14t tires on my new m7060 with 140 hrs and I love them. The tractor came standard with a 6 ft bucket and the dealer upgraded to a 7 ft at my request. The tires do balloon some with the bucket full but not to the point that I would reconsider getting something else. My opinion of which tire to buy is this: Traction R1-Loader R4-Turf R3 but if you are looking for the tire that comes at number 2 in each of these categories then R14 is it plus they ride very smooth on the road. I bought a hd one shank subsoiler rated for minimum of 40 hp and and I need all 70 horses to pull it in my hard clay soil but no problem as far tire traction. I am considering purchasing a 3 cu yd dirt pan, if the tractor can handle it, I know the tires can
