A check did not find when Illinois passed law requiring only ethanol at the pumps. You seem to assume all states are the same, not so. By 1980 cars had restrictive baffles in filler tube to accept the smaller filler nozzles of unleaded gas. It was unlawful in some states to alter, use regular gas in these which I and many people did. TN was one of these states. They would not turn on the gas pump if you attempted to use leaded regular in these cars as I found out. MTBE was used briefly until it was found to be poisonous then ethanol was substituted. It was not long afterwards that Illinois required only ethanol gas at service stations. You might want to be more careful before declaring people are incorrect.

Are you talking about leaded gas or ethanol gas? The have not sold leaded gas in years. They do sell non-ethanol unleaded gas.
