Anybody want a free loader?

   / Anybody want a free loader? #11
My Dad had two good questions about it.
How hard is to get a bucket for it and how much $$.
How does it hook up to the 8n hydraulic system.

And I have to convince my wife this is worth the trip.
She says 2 days and one night in a motel, + food + gas + trailer rental.
Somehow the words "free loader" don't mean as much to her....

I'll try to get some pictures and measurements of my axles soon.

Can't help with the price/availability for buckets.. however if you have a friend that welds.. it shouldn't be a problem to make one.

Loader could be hooked up either off a front mounted crank driven 'stinger' ump.. or other aux pump like a 'live thang' add on.. or lastly, from the N's internal pump.

To use the internal pump, you remove the corner test port plugfrom the hyd pump base and tap a hyd line in there, and then run that to your spool valve. If it is all SA stuff, it will drain back thru the same hose. if you have sophisticated valving and / or DA stuff.. you'll probably have to cobble up a return line and dump it into the tranny via the fill plug. Some buy a new fill plug and then drill a hole in it to add the return hose.

In order to get useable pressure from the corner port, you must chain your lift arms down to the axle, just as if you were testing the hydro pump with an external gauge to se what pressure the relief popped 9 detailed in the I&T fo-4 manual ). With the arms chained down.. hyd pressure is diveerted thru the corner port once you have the big hytrol handle up. On the power up/gravity down/trip bucket systems. .there was no other valving other than the n's hytrol handle.. it powereed the big lift cyls and then you use a lever to dump. If you have a power dump.. you will need extra spools.. probably OC, and then leave your hytrol handle up for power.. etc.

If using the hytrol and no other valving.. be carefull to stop the cyls once the loader is all the way up. as the N's internal relief valve will get a real workout otherwise.. it's pretty tough though. Most external spools will/may come with another relief.. some don't.

My 660 uses a tap on the hyd top cover, etc..

I went out today and took pictures of my axles.
But somewhere between there and here lost them in the camera.
I did get a measurement.
From the center of the rear axle to the center of the front kingpin, 69 inches.
When it warms up again I will try again to get some pictures.

There is a bracket under the rear axle on each side,
but I think it is there for sway bars to be connected.
Thought I would ask about that tho anyway.

So far it's not looking good for this project.
Can't seem to convince wife this is worth it to come get.
May have to pass on it. : (

The angle iron ( or cast if old old ). brackets under the fenders.. are indeed stabilizer bar supports.. however instalation of a loader will use these fender bolt supports also.
( so would an aftermarket rops.. )

Hey SG,
Think that would work on my 640? If P Bear ends up passing on it, I might be interested. I have relatives in Mayfield Ky, and that is only about a 3 hour drive from us here.

Ken,
if you want it go ahead and get it.
Save me the trouble of figuring out whether I can get it or not.
And I don't really need it.

I'll measure the wheelbase of my NAA compaired to my 660 and tell you what I come up with. i know the NAA is 4" more than the 8n. It also depends on if the loader was modified already to fit another tractor. however all that said.. I would think yes.. It should fit a hundred series if it fits an NAA. Heck.. at worst you do some custom welding and make it fit. Lots of people did 'make-fit's to get those loaders on 8ns'..etc.

Thanks PB,
I'd love to have it, if you are sure you do not.

And thanks also Sound Guy, but you don't have to go to the trouble, although I appreciate your offer. I'll just modify it if I need to. I will probably PM you with some questions about hydraulics later though, as I know absolutely nothing about them.

Sure Ken, I would rather see it go to someone who is sure they want it.
If I got it then it mite get used or most likely just take up space around here.
Hate to see this old stuff just rust into the ground.
