It's not hard -- just read the service manual carefully.
However, like oosik said, if you don't feel comfortable, take it to the dealer.
I can't imagine a valve adjustment being more than $250. A LOT cheaper than a new V3307-DI that costs about $6.5k reman, less install fees.
To give you an example, a reman drop in 5.4l 3v v8 crate engine for a Ford F150 is around the $3.5k mark. Still not cheap, but a V3307 costs twice that of a light duty pickup truck engine. So at the end of the day, with install fees, you are looking at probably $8k to drop a new engine in your M7040 if you mess up.
