Anyone bought a 2320 and wished they went 2520?

I can tell you that when I looked I picked the 2320 over the 2520. I test drove both and used the loader on both and felt that for the money the 2320 was the best fit for me.

Both picked up the same weight with the FEL they had at the dealer, I prefered the narrower rear tires on the 2320, I had a previous JD with the 24hp motor and really liked it so I felt comfortable with it, I do alot of mowing in the summer and the 2320 felt better for this and all my other attachments would work just fine on either.

Also, and this is just my opinion, I did not think I gained that much more capability with a 2520 for the $3000+ extra for the tractor. I would have gained 2hp and 11 ft/lbs, 1-2 second faster hydraulics and I felt that was all I would gain and if I really wanted that power and hydraulic flow then I would have been better off to go with the 3000 series. The 2320 last year when I was roofing my house I would cram 13 bundles of shingles into the bucket (13x80lbs) and lifted it to full height to the top of the scaffolding.

Both are great tractors and you will find pros and cons to both (but probably no complaints on either from owners) but what matters is which will fit your needs the best and give you the most bang for your buck. Also, I have not wished that I bought the 2520 over my 2320 as the 2320 has done everything I wanted it to and I have had no problems doing them.

I have the 2320 and have never felt I'd be better off with the 2520. Like OP, my main needs are mowing (with 62" MMM) and FEL. I also use the 54" front blade and a 4' RM. I do a lot of work in the woods too.

I drove a 2320 and 2520 side by side before I purchased. The 2520 was no doubt a nice tractor with a bit more power, but not worth the extra $$$.

If you're finish mowing, don't forget the 2520 is a couple hundred pounds heavier than the 2320, if memory serves. That might make a difference.

I would go 2520 - the hydraulics are much much better than the 2320. $3400 worth - well if you end up upgrading later due to that - you will be pissed. I liked my 2210, but the hydraulics were weak. Essentially a 2305 and 2320 hydraulics. I would step up, but that is just me.

Can you have too big a tractor - yup. Weight, physical size, trailering it, maneuvering it, etc

Can you have too small a tractor - oh yeah.

I had the debate: 5525 vs. 6415 and I went 5525 ($10K difference) but also the 5525 would fit on my trailer.

Lots to think about. Buying twice or three times is when it gets really expensive.

Before I bought my 2320 I looked at green, orange, red, and blue. They are all good tractors but the ergonomics and finish of the JDs appealed to me. There were other reasons for not going with any of the other brands as well. Anyhow I had narrowed my choice between the 2320 and 2520 and went with the 2320.
1. Did not seem worth the extra 3,300 to move up.
2. I must be clumsy but that darn little hump in the operator's station on the 2520 kept getting in the way.
3. The 2320 just seemed to work better than the 2520. May have been the individual tractor I was driving; don't know.

Would I ever move up...possibly but it would be to a 3520 or something along those lines.

Hello again folks,

Obviously, I'm still trying to decide on which one to trade the 2305 for. I did my stint on looking at Kubota's but am going to stay Green for sure. Now it's just down to 2320 or 2520.

I have a dealer with both and has a great deal for me on the 2320 as it is his last 2007 and the 2520 is a 2008. There is $3,400 difference to go up to the 2520 which is alot of money now but if I end up going through this again I'm sure it is cheaper to do it now.

My needs are mowing lawn and FEL work. The 2305 has been great but there is a bush that backs on to our property and everytime I go in there I'm on pins and needles watching for twigs and hydro fan shavings. Also, the 2320 seems to be more stable for FEL work.

I dont want to make the mistake of buying the 2520 and it being too big either. (If there is such a thing as having a tractor too big).

Anyway, I'm sorry for all the posts on this but it is alot of cash and I just dont want to make a mistake again.

Any comments on 2320 vs. 2520 would be greatly appreciated. I want to get this deal done in the next few days and be ready for spring thats got to be around the corner.

Thanks again...
What is it going to cost you to go from your 2305 to the 2320?
Last spring I bought a new 2305 with a 62"mmm, loder with 53" bucket, 4' bush hog and the ballast box. After 40 hours use I traded it in. Guess what I got? Your wrong. I got the 2320. I could not be any happier with it. I mow 3 acres with some slopes, I use the bucket to clear snow on 350 ft. of driveway, clean out the barn stalls with the loader, bush hog 6 acres of paster 2x a year. Some say it makes know sence to go from a 2305 to a 2320 but those are the same people that get beer mucles after drinking 6 beers, because they always say go bigger. The 2305 is a great tractor if you are using it around the house. If you want to mow pastures, use it around the barn, not have a fear of the tranny cooling fan sredding, you like more ground clearence, smoother ride with the larger tires and take the guess work out of the 3pt hitch control and the drive over deck is nice go with the 2320. If you want to use your tractor as a backhoe or do alot of commercial work get the 2520. For what I needed a tractor to do I was on the fence of the 2305 and the 2320 I first fell on the 2305 side then I stood back up and jumped the fence and went with the 2320. My dealer treated me very well when I traded to the 2320. From day one before I bought the 2305 the differnce on the whole package from the 2305 to the 2320 was $2,500. When I traded to the 2320 the difference was $3,100. He basicly charged me $600 for 40 hours use on the 2305. Hope this made sence and helped.

I've owned both. Currently have the 2520. Would not go back. As stated far better hydraulics. More power. I'm not talking about specifications on paper, I'm talking about what I can realize while I'm working. 2320 is a great tractor, but nowhere near as nice as a 2520 for a little bit more. Take my advise, do it right the first time.

My question is where is this big price differance coming from? I have read price differances from $3000+ to $3500. If you go to John Deeres web site and build your own the price differance is $2464. Plus you should also get a discount on this $2464.
When I was trading my 2305 it was going to be on a 2320. I made a deal and all I had to do was sign my name but thought i should wait and think it over for a week or so.
One evening I was talking with my wife about it and her comment was "you decided to trade up to a larger tractor with the same engine as your last tractor. Is it really worth it. Why not find out how much it would be to go up one more size." So off to the dealership I went.
I went and looked at the 2520 and asked the saleman how much more. He told me it had a retail price of $2400 more than the 2320. I said thats nice but what is the bottom line. He said based on the same discount he gave me on the 2320 I would be able to buy the 2520 for $2000 more than the 2320.
I told I would let him know the next day.
Went home and started to read as many posts here as I could find. So back to discussing it with my wife. She said when you bought the 2305 you wished the 2320 was out but you thought the 2305 was big enough. After you used it for a year you said you should have waited for the 2320. What would keep you from wanting a bigger tractor in a year from now. My answer was by buying the biggest tractor that I would be comfortable driving on our lawn. She said then thats what you should buy.
So now I'm thinking my wife just talked me into buying BIGGER TRACTOR!!(won't be trading her in).
So I phone the dealer and tell him I will be taking the 2520. I picked it up a few days later and have never regretted it.
My thoughts are if you consider how long you are going to keep the tractor and divide the differance into those years it really isn't that much. I feel buying the biggest tractor your yard can handle that is within your budget is the way to go.
If you are second guessing on which to buy before you even bought it you for sure will be doing the same after you buy it.
The 2520 is a great tractor and I'm sure the 2320 is too but for $2000 over the life of the tractor I chose the 2520.

REMEMBER IT IS BETTER TO THINK ABOUT IT FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE YOU BUY IT THEN THINKING ABOUT IT FOR A LONG TIME AFTER!!!!!!!!!!!

A fella can buy a lotta fans or fan guard for the cost of a trade in. Having said that, and contemplated a trade myself, it seems that there have been a fair amount of comments about the mowing and speed of a 2305 given the power to weight ratio. Some have commented about the 2320's gearing related to it's power and extra weight.

The additional power and hydraulic speeds of the 2520 make it seem more appealing than the 2320.

I do enjoy being able to shoe horn the 2305 right up against the house and other obstacles.

Last year when I was in this quandry myself the thought that the 2320 might feel sluggish cooled my jets on a trade. If I had it to do over as a first time purchaser I would go for the 2320 (position control).

Buy some HP and hydraulic speed if your trading into a bigger frame.

You got very lucky and your dealer did you right. Most people would have taken a total bath on that deal. I know I was going to take a bath on my 2210 so I sold it out in a private deal.

Buying twice can get very expensive. If you are questioning 2320 vs. 2520 and are truly concerned about the 2320 being too small - get the 2520.

Will the deal do an on site demo?
