I want/need to build a small (5') seed drill. Want to use it for grass, hay seed. I've got cultipacker parts laying around, just need to figure out the drill part. Any ideas?

I've thought about buying two 30 inch wide fertilizer drop spreaders (if I could find them that wide), hook them together at the axles, mount them forward and above a pulverizer type roller, and use it to drill grass seed.

The drive would be off the pulvervizer roller.

If you build the prototype, I'll let you...............

Good luck. I'd love to have one also. I asked for plans for a rock picker and one for a powdered lime spreader (that WORKS) and got NADA. Nothing. Zilch. GooseEgg. Halo. Used drills are expensive and I haven't been able to find one in decent shape for under about $750...and they were U G L Y

Racking the ol' brain now, trying to remember the name of the company (from Shelbyville, Indiana) that makes one targeting the "deer food plot/landscape market". I'll hunt up the literature when i get home today....

Also, try "Sukup". They make dairy/hay/forage equipment mainly. They have a small drill for doing grass/small grains. I looked at them at the recent National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville this past Feb.

Contact Ken Sweet (Sweet Farm Equipment) and ask about the Ferguson Yardmaker. I have a 7'er on order now. (He has 6' models in stock) They are essentially what you describe. A drop spreader followed by a packer wheel. Packer drives the drop spreader. Nice, clean outfit, and fairly inexpensive....

"BUT..did you know that Jetho Tull invented the seed drill??"

That just goes to show my ignorance. I thought he was too young to have been born early enough to have invented it in the 1930's.
