Anyone disconnect the computer while welding on a tractor?

You got that right. I had lightning strike somewhere near my house years ago, and cooked most things with electronics. TV, stereo, vcr, answering machine, telephone, etc etc etc.

I have never considered doing it till I read this thread. Just Yesterday I welded on a project that was supported by the forks on the front of my JD3320. I use the bed of my truck as a welding table all the time with no ill results. I always ground to my work.
