Anyone drink scotch?

Years ago I work for a UK company here in the US. Quite a few Brits came over here to work as well as from other European countries. Since they flew over they only had what was in their suitcases. One of my coworkers needed some furniture so I sold him a whole bunch for just about nothing. :D

He gave me a bottle of Glenlivet as a thank you. I drink a bit every once in awhile. Different bottle of course. :D Roughly a 1 to 1 mixture with spring water. :) Ok it is water filtered in the fridge from my well but that is spring water! :D:D

I do have some other single malts, I think a Black Label, that I like but it is not JW.

We don't really like wine that much. Just a two that I can think of but we don't drink them much. I like some cheap wine and I like some expensive wine. Money does not seem to matter regarding what I like or dislike....

Years ago my parents were in Portugal for a month or so. In Oporto. :D Which is in a major port producing region. :D They started drinking Port. One of their stories from Oporto was going out to eat and another party ordered a very expensive bottle of Port. The waiter DROPPED the bottle on the floor and it broke. The wait staff got down on the floor with straws and sucked it up. :D

I started trying Port back here in the US. I tried a $5 bottle which was not very good. Eventually I worked my way up the price tree and found I really liked $30-40 bottles.:D I don't drink it much.... ;)

Years ago I used to buy my father a $30-50 bottle of Vintage port for his birthday, fathers day, etc. He would drink some and keep others. This past Christmas he brought up one of the bottles that I bought for $50 back in the 80's. :D

We figured the bottle was likely worth a few hundred dollars and did we really want to drink it?:D We opened the bottle and drank it. :D:D:D

Let me tell you it was the best booze we have ever tasted. My wifey did some research and figured that the bottle at retail was in the $300-500 range.:eek::D We figured a small glass as about $25. Investing in vintage port might be better than the stock market.....

One night we were finishing up the bottle. It lasted three nights. The wifey knocked over her glass!:confused::eek::rolleyes:

She spilled it on an end table.

She got out a straw......

Dan, I grew up in a family of Baptists. And my paternal grandmother was one of those who are adamantly opposed to smoking and drinking. But the time came when my grandfather saw a doctor about some minor stomach problems and the doctor recommended a small glass of wine each evening before supper. So my grandfather came home with a big bottle of Port wine. Grandmother was furious that he'd bring that in the house. However, he did as the doctor said; drank a 6 ounce glass of Port every evening, and sure enough his stomach problems went away.

After a few months, grandmother decided that maybe it wasn't so bad after all. I had an uncle who lived two doors from them and he was a Baptist minister and taught in a Baptist seminary. He was also the worst hypochondriac I ever knew and his stomach ailments were only one of his many complaints. So finally my grandmother even suggested that he try the wine, but he refused to even try it.:D

A scotch is to be sipped and enjoyed, and yes, if you don't care too much for the taste straight, try a bit of Drambuie in it as a Rusty Nail. It is a beautiful sight to see the Drambuie vaporize itself through the scotch, especially if you float an ice cube in it to give a quick chill.
If you gag on the first sip you took too much. After the scond, you will have coated and numbed your taste buds a bit and things will smothen out.
While it is common to go Walker Red, Black, or Blue, be creative and try some others. Daltmore is a bit oaky, Cragamore is very smokey, almost peaty. I am currently enjoying a glass of Glenmorangie, one of my favorites, which brings a nice fruity and nutty flavor. Now mind you, I am a regular guy, grew up on the farm, plays nicely with equipment and likes to get as dirty as possible. Beer is great with the guys but a quality scotch at night will chill you out, not leave you bloated, and gives a great recapping to the day's end before turning in. Enjoy and let us know how it goes!

Whiskey is great. Beer is really good, and so is some wine. People are crazy.

If I have to join AA it is TBN's fault. :D

Last night I looked at what Black brand bottle I had in kitchen. Well it is Black Bush Irish Whiskey. :) After all of this talk I mixed a bit of BBIW and some spring water to sip while watching the fire last night. Very nice. :D

Don't have much BBIW left but I do have some Glenlivet. :D

That is funny. My grandmother grew up attending the Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She would turn up her nose when my uncle would visit and put beer in the fridge. In her last few years she was loosing weight and the doctor told her to drink beer to gain weight.:D So she did. She would buy those little cans of Bud or Busch. :D I was shocked on one visit when I opened the fridge and discovered that Granny was drinking beer. :D I sure kidded her about it too. :D

Really miss that grand lady. Wish she had lived long enough to see my kids. Wish I could talk to her again. She had a hard life and one of the many sayings she had was "Waste not, want not." I started saying this to my kids usually prefaced with "Granny always said, waste not, want not" which morphed into "You know what Granny always said...." :D

They have picked up on this saying now and will turn it on me from time to time. :D Mission accomplished. :D:D:D When my dad first heard the kids use the saying he about passed out. :D

The saying has passed to a new generation.

I like good scotch, if I'm going to drink. The Macallen 12 year old is one of my favorites. The 18 is good, but not worth the extra money to me, and the 25 is way outta my league
