Anyone else hate the new light bulbs?

My bill tops out at about .34 cents if I were to use that much.

The PUC is considering a proposal to totally revamp how electricity is sold in California.

The reason being solar is cutting into profits and those with grid tie in systems are not paying their fair share... states the report.

at .32/KWH i can see it. but i pay 0.06/KWH.... so i hate them

0.06/KWH? Are you served by a shareholder-owned corporation? How can they make a profit at that rate?

My rate if I ran extensive lighting on top of air conditioning in the summer, would be billed at 5 times that per KWH.

$0.1379/kWh right now + $0.00573/kWh (for efficiency "programs") means $0.14363/kWh. Then there are the other BS service charges. And this is going up about 3% next year.

Although not as bad as some, any wonder why saving power is a priority for us here? Someday, hopefully soon, Ill have some solar to help shed some of the cost. Likely hot water at first.

Back then, the electric light was widely heralded as a game changing invention and everyone wanted to get lights and electricity ASAP. My parents told me the definition of rich and poor was often determined by who was electrified or not. They were there when the lights came on.

Today, with modern light bulbs replacing the incandescent light by government fiat and before the market has determined what exactly the public chooses to buy the results are as confusing as one would expect. Let the market decide.

But earlier than that --- I was reading somewhere last night that getting the first lamp oil out of the first wells in Pennsylvania was called evil, devilish, immoral --- by the whalers.

(A little history for those who need it - whale oil was the standard indoor lamp fuel for a while).

That would be great if the market was capable of "deciding". They can't decide anything, because they can't get good information.

Industry pumps up the cost of lightbulbs by monopoly and that windfall supports the costs of controlling the "market". Protectionism, buying out competitors, paying off our congress, paid infomercials on talk radio, there are so many ways. They do it so well that a LOT of people appear to support industry running our congress. Think about that for a moment. It can't end well.
